Default Getting started. Need advise. Grimm 2x6

    Good evening,

I have spent many sugaring seasons tapping trees, giving the sap to friends and then helping them boil. I am looking to do some for myself. Today I came across a Grimm 2x6 under a pile of rubble and a lot of dust. It does not appear to be in bad shape, but is old. The evaporator pan is a drop flue and the syrup pan has 3 dividers running cross ways (not front to back). The pans are soldered tin. I am not sure what to even offer for it, and I am not sure the old lady knows what to ask. Assuming no leaks, what is it worth? The arch is not burned out at all, and even if it was, I could fix it.

What would be the minimum number of taps I would need to run this unit?

Are there concerns with soldered tin?

Thanks for Amy help anyone can give.
    Scott

if its in decent shape and usable i wouldnt hesitate paying 1500/2000 for it.english tin pan boil fantastic.all pans were soldered at one time so no its not a problem just dont scrub the solder as its probably lead base.as far as tap count,i boiled for years on a 2x6 raised flue grimm and ran 200 taps with few problems

this just sold for around the same price. I would be more inclined to offer 800 to a 1000 no more than 1500.
minimum taps I would say 50. It takes 20 to 25 gal to flood pans and with out the forced air you would probably be around 15 to 20 gal an hour.
