I don't think I could take doing back to back seasons...Need a break for some sleep and then cleaning and start cutting and splitting wood :)
I had assumed this was a reason for not using PBW for cleaning (I find PBW also needs lots of rinsing) and/or Star-San for sanitizing for maple sap where they will be concentrated during boiling. ...
I started adding these onto my lines but one issue I’m having is if the line has some leverage on it the cam lock will start to unlock itself. Usually happens to my on my portable pump that isn’t...
Wow very interesting, thanks for sharing. Not totally sure I am understanding the graphs but it looks like even up here (03584) we are currently above average and last year was below average. And I...
Only 125 miles north of you and we have snow on the ground and are barely getting into the 30s/40s during the day...low of 1F predicted for sunday night.
Wow those look super nice!!
I had some barrels like that that started smelling awful and I figured out it was the lid gasket. You should be able to get a flat screwdriver in under the gasket and work it out of the lid and throw...
I take a cup and taste it. If it's still like sweet water its good to go.
Wow...Cabin fever or something?? Maybe time check your well water for contaminates.
Just wash your hands, a lot.
Got the arch moved out to the shack and the bricks mortared in. I did end up having to make some space for the mortar on a couple bricks but worked out. If I were to do it over I would not cut quite...
Thanks! That would be great if it works out like that, running out of time and fast!
Came this way from CDL and hitting the flues with wood is a concern of mine. Over the flat of the firebox they are only maybe 6” at most, then the ramp starts. The flues are pretty tight to the sides...
Oops should have added that! It’s a CDL 18”x60”, drop flues in the back pan.
Yeah that is one thing I was wondering was how much space the mortar will take up. These are pretty tight so you are probably right, thanks!
Howdy - Thought I would share some photos of my first attempt bricking my new arch. This is the final dry fit before I take the bricks out and move the arch out to my shack. First time ever doing...
Wow that would be awesome!!
Can't do that from sitting in a chair with a beer in hand...
This seems like an incredible waste, is there no way to recycle them? What is the advantage of them over buckets that can be reused again and again?
Making progress...

Yeah it's on skids so I can hopefully move it this summer and will just use crushed rock for the floor as well. Got most of the roof on today and walls going on tomorrow. Working fast, looks like...
Saturday morning I decided to not be out in the elements for sugaring this year...A few hours of sketchup for a 12'x8' design on skids ("portable structure"), digging out the trailer to go for...
Up in Lancaster, we have about 50 taps on buckets along the driveway but plenty more trees so I have been moving them around when they dry up. Made a little over 5 gallons on a barrel evaporate and...
I was just down at Fuller's in town this week and we were discussing that the season up here has yet to really get going, a few days here and there but it has spent more time frozen solid that the...
Thanks for putting this out there, this is my first year making syrup and it's been interesting to follow your progress!
It finally warmed up enough for a little sap to run yesterday but froze solid again last night with the storm coming. I checked a few taps today and a couple had sap frozen around the tap and a...
