Sorry didn’t answer you sooner was away a few days. Great it worked out for you getting it. It looked really good in the picture. I boiled on a 20x66” CDL drop flue for 5 years until I upgraded to a...
Keep us posted on how things work out for you.
I don’t know if you are on Facebook but in the Vermont Sugaring Equipment For Sale group Someone in Barre, VT has a 29”x63” Dominion and Grimm evaporator with a rear flue pan and front flat pan for...
Not bad for the length of season you had. Good luck on your pump repair and getting ready for next season
Thank You for sharing what and how you are using your vacuum source.
What is the vacuum pump you are using? Could you provide a link to it? Is it quieter than running a shop vac?
I believe that they stopped publishing a couple years ago pre-Covid
I’m using the 12” CDL vacuum filter, bought one of the first ones in the US. I’m putting up to 3 gallons at a time through it lately. With the amount of niter/sugar sand, I am running 1-1/2 to 2+...
2 tablespoons is not enough DE. You need this year 3/4-1 cup of it to be affective on 1/2 gallons of syrup.
Great to hear
Filtering is harder this year. If your press plugs up quickly then try adding more DE to each batch of syrup you are filtering. With higher sugar sand, it helps keep the syrup flowing.
I’m not sure how any of that controls the weather and environment that is the biggest driving factor for sap production in the springtime. Maybe you think your trees and tubing are better than...
It’s amazing that you are so high on your output. I am at about 45%, and most everyone I have talked is similar in the western part of the state.
So sorry to hear that. At least through reading, he is able to keep up with what is going on.
Actually you may need to increase the amount of DE you add, not decrease. If you have too little DE, there is not enough to build a layer up over the entire filter, before a layer of niter sludge...
If you are talking about using a tee to make a loop around the tree, then yes you can. People used them or Y’s to make end loops for many many years before they started making end hooks.
Yes, scratches made by any source on your pans will make the niter stick quicker and harder to remove.
It will scratch your pans so that niter will stick easier and burn easier
If it is a Bosworth hand pump, they make replacement parts.

Supposed to be fairly warm this week, so it will melt and help keep the sap from getting too warm.
Did you buy it from MES? If so Clayton is really good helping with vacuum pump problems. Give him a call.
I suspect that your problem filtering is not getting your DE mixed in well and possibly you need to add a little more. I have to experiment each year to find the sweet spot for amount of DE to add to...
That’s great. Keep us updated on how it performs over the season.
Same here. Might drizzle a little today but nothing promising until the weekend
