How's everyone's season going thusfar?
All of the stuff sitting in my yard survived the last couple days into the high 60's low 70's. As long as it's still clear it's DEFINITELY good, if it's cloudy but doesn't smell funky it'll still...
Sorry to hear this, danno. Like has been said, I think a lot of us feel for you right now, since cancer seems to be somehting that has touched more and more of our lives through the years. Rest up...
One thing that worked really well for me last year when I had 20+ gallons (like you said, a lot for a small backyard'er) was to fill a bunch of Solo cups with sap and freeze them in my chest freezer...
I just did the same thing last night. Have been worried about the sap from my first 6 taps going bad in the warm weather, so I boiled off the first 15 gallons on a turkey fryer and steam pan over...
Yeah I had to boil on the turkey fryer last night since I had too much to do around the house to get my barrel fired up and tended to. got about 7 out of the close to 20 gallons that had collected...
Good to hear! I got my first 6 in on Saturday and am expecting to have 15 or so ready to start boiling this evening. **** temps and no snow mean I have to boil midweek...
How's the flow looking so far?
Congrats. Got the first half of mine in on Saturday as well, and things look like they're flowing really well.
Ill have to swing by when you're boiling sometime. Good luck with the temps this...
Great info. Thanks!
Great info and thanks for posting, as I need to get off my butt and do some upgrades to my barrel from last year. A quick question on the ceramic blanket, even though I know this has probably been...
I'll be giving this a shot when I get home this evening to bring to dinner with me later on. I've made mostly dark amber but I imagine this will still work for me if i bring it up to 32 deg over...
Congrats on a productive and successful season!
I'll be finishing mine up this week, and will post a similar retrospective after seeing yours. Super helpful to see what others learned and did...
The folks over at Trees Sucking On Things would love that! :-)
Oof, that's a bummer, sir... Sorry to hear it. Hope this evening goes smoothly!
Nice work and congrats on a fruitful season!
I'm boiling off the remains of the sap i collected last week tonight and am hoping to crack 3 gallons, 4.5 is pretty outstanding for 15 taps. :-)
All my my buckets except for one or two seem to have pretty much stopped as of this weekend. Looks like it's coming to a close in our area.
interesting. my trees didn't give it up this weekend, really. I have some sap that I forgot to put in the shade this morning before work, though, so hopefully it doesn't spoil too badly before i...
collected another 34 gallons by yesterday from the 9 taps that were still running last week and made another gallon or so over the weekend. saw some sap in the buckets this morning from overnight,...
I'm just a new guy around here, but when i bring my nearup in to the stove to finish it, i put one of these in and set the alarm to 218 or 219 depending on what boiling water reads at that day, and...
Yeah I collected about 24 gallons from 15 taps last night, but the early taps i put in are pretty slow and probably won't yield much beyond this week.
Swapped out a full 5g bucket this morning and saw a couple others that got a good run over the weekend.
How're everyone's trees doing?
Thanks!
Second year here and I can't thank everyone here enough for all the information I've been able to glean in the last year and change. :-)
I'm a data nerd so all of my hobbies have a spreadsheet associated with them where i track time, startup materials, purchases, etc...
A hobby within my hobby of collecting hobbies, is attempting...
Looking great!
Hopefully the tail end of the eek into next looks like some good sap weather for another run. :-)
