Sounds good. I thought I remembered you asking in an earlier post somewhere why not go 3 to 4, 2 to 3, etc. So I thought that's what you were planning to do.

I'll be curious to see how you wind...

In all the videos you've watched, does anyone scoop from 3 to 4, then 2 to 3, then 1 to 2? That seems like what you're planning to do, but I think everyone goes 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc.

That's how many scoops have to come out of the warming pan and into the first boiling pan. But you need more scoops to get the sap where it needs to go to keep each pan level.

My first arch was a wood stove with the top cut out. Worked fine for a while, but I didn't insulate it, and after a few years it warped beyond the point of usability.

    3/16 scrap length

Does anyone have a scrap length of 3/16 they would be willing to part with? I have a test I want to try. I will probably never use more tubing, so I don't want to buy a whole roll!

    So I would...

A flue pan is the main pan. What makes it different from a flat pan is that it has "flues" - deep fins that extend into the hot gasses in the arch. Effectively it triples (or more?) the surface...

I'm not sure if there is an "official" method, but I consider the start to be when I light the match, and the end to be about 15 or 20 minutes after my last firing, when the boil pretty much stops.

If you mean - could the thicker ice contain sugar, then yes, that's the general idea. Think about it this way: if there is a tiny skim of ice it is basically pure water, however if the whole bucket...

I checked my notes this morning, and I think it was more like 40 gallons. 35 Gallons went into the pan on the first boil, and then my first draw was 45 minutes into the second boil.

The key phrase you may have missed in the post you are quoting (LMP boiling every time there are 5 gallons to boil) is "when the season is in full swing". Start of season is a different kettle of...
