Problem is going to be running out of flow and fowling the 3rd membrane. I run 2-1/2 gpm on the concentrate side until I get to 7-8 brix and then squeeze down to 1-1/2 gpm to get around 12-14%...

Check with DG, 7.5hp should be able to add an additional membrane and booster pump.
Try removing the chimney cap, it might be causing a restriction.
In my opinion a gear pump style machine is the only way to go. To be clear, I have never used a paddle machine but what I see as advantages over a paddle machine are; Consistently mixed batches, ...
Have you tried acid inside the air pipes? It might be closer to the source and work better, also maybe try not diluting the acid. First time I have heard of the air holes getting plugged in a...
Bruce,
I have seen this happen on my steamaway as well. Usually happens right at start up after filing the steamaway and not keeping the valve to the flue pan open, air seems to get caught in...
Cant speak for oil fired but on my wood fired arch pre Steamaway average GPH was about 45-50gph, with the Steamaway we are running at an average of 90gph. The flue pan needs to really be ripping...
Purchased a Dominion and Grimm 5 frame press this year with the electric diaphragm pump. I havent used it yet but looking forward to using it.
For what its worth, I had thought about converting my arch to propane fired as we belong to a large coop and Lp was reasonably priced. I asked a large producer near me his thoughts and he...
Neil Walling in Norwich NY is a DG dealer and sells the Indiana vacuum pumps now 607-674-5273
Just for curiosity what is your GPH? I am assuming that you have a 6ft flue pan and steamaway, Do you know what nozzle you are running in the burner?
Thanks
My evaporator has been doing the same thing the last few boils. It seems to be because of the sugar sand we filter the sweet and wash the pan every night. However we still get the popping, the...
Yes it will work, but I would say do it with caution, Don't use any harsh chemicals of acids to remove it. If you do be sure to neutralize them afterwards. Some pans are made using cheaper grades...
Hi all, we have reached the official time of year for the what am going to different next year conversations. I am currently running a 2x6 wood fired rig but I am debating switching to an oil...
Type K thermocouples will last about 2-3 years in a wood evaporator. That's assuming that the flue temps are running in the 1200-1300 degree range.
I would go with a Lapierre horizontal releaser. I have had much better luck with that type over a vertical releaser.
For what its worth,
I have a 2x2 standard reverse flow syrup pan, what I have found over the years is that by watching my stack thermometer (digital readout) I am able to adjust the air to the...
Russ,
What type of concentration can you get through your machine on a single pass? I think the lapierre machines will run over 300psi correct?
The venturi evaporator looks like a good option for smaller producers that cant don't need a larger size arch offering, in talking to the sales rep he said the only thing to note is that it wont be...
How much DE are you using and how many plates do you have in the press? With all 5 plates in the press it should only take about 4 cups of DE to fill the press, I have a sheets press with an air...
Has anyone ever used the DSD star taps before? They look like they would be nice taps but with the reduces tap size makes me worry about decreasing the overall sap yield.
Really sounds like a lack of draft problem, or the grates are plugging and killing air flow. How long did you boil with it? Draft might improve slightly as the evaporator warms up. Only other...
Hi all,
I use a wet dry system 1"dry line and 3/4" wet line to bring most of my taps to my collection tanks. The wet dry line is approximately 800ft long, about 250 taps come the full 800ft,...
When I talk gradient I am referring to the sugar concentration through out the syrup pan. When I have talked with older sugarmakers in my area they have said that a small rig like my 2x6 is harder...
How big is your syrup pan on your 2x8? I have this happen from time to time on my 2x6 with a 2x2 syrup pan. I always blamed it on not being able to get a strong gradient in the smaller pan, and it...
