Hi Carl, I've been reading the pdf for the single post 60gph RO to get up to speed before it arrives. The doc says the pump cannot be run dry or it will be damaged. Also, are there 2 pumps or just...
Thanks for the info, Carl. I just ordered the 60gph single post system from you. This is really bigger than I need, but I want to be able to RO immediately after collection and begin boiling within...
I've had a little flow; yesterday seemed ideal weather for flow, but it wasn't doing much. Next week is not going to work very well :-)
Hi, looking for comments, reviews of the new CDL Nano Max RO. This is the one with 2 4x20 membranes.
I thought we would have a good run yesterday, but only an inch or so in the buckets.
Nice. Hope the weather cooperates for him getting started. We're tapping today, the weather still looks good for the week. After this week, it's a crap shoot! January is all over the place these days.
I’m in Louisville
Hi Geoff, did you tap yet? I'm thinking tomorrow if I get all my ducks in a row.
Hi Dave, have you collected any sap yet?
AccuWeather is showing cold overnight temps towards the end of next week. I was planning to tap right after new years but may tap mid week. What are you all doing?
Lowes (and probably Home Depot) sell food grade 5 gal buckets and lids.
I think this coming week is the best window for this season. Things will start warming up afterwards if it's anything like the past few years. This season may end up being almost non-existent for us...
Thanks Mark. I'm sure everyone in Kentucky is in the same situation, it's been cold this week. If you're ever in the area, feel free to get in touch.
This Saturday is Kentucky Maple Day, but things have been frozen this week and we have no sap to boil. I'm sure everyone else is in the same situation, but in case there is anyone who is in...
Good to hear this is still working out!
I'll probably tap the week of the 16th. We have the annual University of Louisville tapping workshop on the 20th.
I'm on buckets and agree there is little benefit to cv usage. This year I'm going to try zap bac with buckets and see how it works out. I'm using the stainless ring bucket holders.
I think part of it is human nature, or at least the nature of people who make syrup. Maybe a combination of:
1) tinkering
2) improve on what we already have
3) the notion that with just a little...
I made a vacuum filter several years ago, with a 12" filter area, and I could never get it to work very well. Orlon flat sheets worked somewhat ok, but would still clog after a gallon. I also tried...
Interesting read. I listened to a podcast last year that discussed the same thing. I know oak trees are a valuable food resource and important for biodiversity, but as a sugarmaker and cabinetmaker...
Boiling should take care of it
Are you on buckets? Sounds like you might be getting snow melt running into the buckets. Sap is likely ok, I would use it.
I second this. For the small producer decanting is the way to go.
Ants are an excellent source of protein! I wouldn't worry, stuff and bugs get in sap all the time. Just filter before boiling and you should be good to go.
