I don't have a way to check the sugar level but this has been one of our best years. So far we have made 18 gallons of syrup from 527 gallons of sap. That comes to 1 gallons of syrup for every 29.27...
I agree with John it is to early to pull the plug I collected 110 gallons from 80 taps today. Sap was still running good at 2:00 when I collected. Hang in there guys.
Picked up 40 gallons today in Cambridge
put out 100 bags this morning by Cambridge. Nephew just called this evening and said all the bags have about a gallon each in them.
We trimmed some maple trees in the twin cities today and sap was dripping at a steady rate. Never have tapped this early before but am wondering after looking at the accuweather extended forecast.

Just finished up our last boil today. We have 12 gallons of real nice light syrup from the first few boils. The last boil from yesterday and today we got 5 gallons of real dark syrup. We are done...
boiled 50 gallons down last weekend.. got 1.25 gallons of finished syrup This week only have collected 25 gallons as of today. Hopefully this weekend it will let loose.
I had the duct fan mounted on a 4ft pipe and the heat still got to it.

The way the forcasts are looking to me it is going to be the end of March before tapping begins.
I have a stand similar to the PVC one. I built a styrofoam box for around mine. Once I pour the syrup into filter I set a cover on top of it and it filters good.
I guess I learned something new tonight. I did not think between bleach and boiling the plastic taps anything bad could survive. i will use the taps again this year if I can get to the trees to tap...
