Just my 2 cents but if you are going to spend money on a new pump, spend an extra $500 and get a little bigger one than the dealer wants to sell you. Figure 3 cfm for every 100 taps, IT IS WORTH IT...

I know this is going against what a lot of people say but, I figure atleast 3 cfm per 100 taps (it does not cost much to get bigger than you "need") and here is my reasoning; for those times...
In our system of 3700 taps it cost us a couple hundred to run the RO all season but with it we reduce our boiling time from 625 hrs. to 130 hrs. We don't burn wood, we use fuel oil so we saved at...
I am not going to argue with anyone on here but I will say what I believe. This decision basically comes down to a choice: optimum production or just having fun in the woods? You have to make that...
We have a 5x12 ft oil fired evap. with a 4 ft syrup pan. We make almost all Light Amber except for the very end of the season, we ro up to 10%. So the question I had was, I don't want to make much...
We have a 5X12 Evap. and were wondering if we would get a better boil rate if we put bubblers in the flue pan. Any one had experience with this? and how do we make them?
Thanks alot Samuel
I would strongly recemend going with at least 4-5 cfm per 100 taps . In our woods with 1700 taps we went with a 100 cfm but in that woods we have a vacuum powered piston pump to pump the sap up out...
My advice is to go with Indiana Vaccum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have a 75 cfm and a 100 cfm pump both gas powered, pulling 27"+ all season without one...
Everyone running over 25 in. of vac HAVE TO LUBE ALL MOVING PARTS ON THE RELEASER EVERYDAY (or every 12 hrs.)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have also had one come apart this year so we quickly relubed...
We have filled several different 55 gal drums this year and a couple drums changed shape after cooling. We canned them at 190-195 degrees, it that too hot or what would cause them to do that? Or are...
Get some plastic for your walls to hold some heat in.
We had a question whether the mainlines thaw better in the morning if we start the vac. pumps before they thaw or if we should let the lines thaw out then start the pumps. We have heard the sap will...
We got a new nf 270 membrane this year and was wondering what is the highest pressure we can run without passing sugar and what is the highest concentration we can go without passing sugar. Is the...

We also though about the same idea. The only thing that we were worried about is that sap would have to be moving through the coil inside the stack at a certain rate all the time~sometimes our float...
From St. Lawrence Nursery(I think in northern NY) is where those sweet silver maples are which are cloned so they are exactly like their parent with 3-5% sugar content and tappable in 7-10 yr. or...
This may be a good aim but the Bible says a mans life is 60 yrs and if by reason of strength 70. It also says that no one knows when God will call them to spend eternity in heaven or hell. The Bible...
You could put a small gas burner in the corner of the shack or right along the evaporator where you are drawing off syrup, then again maybe rivet a small piece of SS (L- shape) right to the stack....
We have a liquid ring tuthill 20 cfm pump that will pull about 27in at the pump, we also have a 75 cfm robusci? liquid ring and we can pull a little higher vac with that. I guess they are only...
We always could hear an air leak on our releaser when it was leaking but we had the pump in another building so the noise from the pump was not drowning out the vac leak noise. If it is a great big...
We don't have an oven in the sugar shack. We also don't have running hot water but we do have cold water and a little water from the preheater from the evaporator.
What is the most efective way to heat jars ? Last year we washed all the little jars in hot water.
Thanks in advance Philip Kasza
I have heard this past year that I need high bit speed to make a nice clean seal, it that correct? And to also have the drill at high speed before I hit the tree, go as deep as I am going to, pull it...
I would not go any less than 3 cfm per 100 and since you are doing it for the first time probably 5 cfm/100 taps would be better. No matter how good you set up your first woods, it really takes...
We have a oil fired evap. with 2-601 carlin burners. We were wondering how we could heat the fuel oil going to the burners for improved efficentcy. We don't have a steam away so we can not use that...
