good to hear. im about to take a walk in the woods and see what i have. hoping for more of course.
i hope to cook at least one more time but yes, its been a crazy season. too cool yesterday here for any run and i havent checked today. its not a fancy setup and im still learning. we make a few...
This is the result of the cook the other day. 2 cases of a beautiful light syrup.16194BBC
Here in RI, I've only cooked 4 times this season but today's syrup was the lightest I've gotten all season. Usually it's the first cook but not this year.16193no
My area is slow to warm but today it released 115 gallons of 2% sap. Looks like I'm cooking tomorrow and hopefully everyday this week.
i only boiled twice. it sounds like we are in the same boat. the lines were flowing a little today. the reds more than the sugars. but tomorrow should be a gusher! lets hope this weather pattern...
nice work there! how does she boil? any idea of an evaporation rate?
with the cold nights last week and then warming days midweek, i expected a good run. got almost nothing wednesday and thursday. then, when i had given up hope, they trees loosened up and gave me 75...
i havent posted much because we just havent had the weather for a good run. even after a cold spell, we are getting minimal flow. we just have to wait until they release.
i notice it too. i think when the door opens, the heat rises up the front of the evaporator and rises quicker than the steam. so as it goes, it grabs some steam and takes it with it. possible?
i will tell you my experience. ...i had a nice used pan i bought and when i was done for the season, a friend asked to borrow it to speed up his process. he burnt it and melted the soldered joints. i...
i agree with the others. a new taphole will run more initially than an earlier tap. even if conditions are not favorable for a run, it will run when first drilled. i dont have scientific proof but...
for me, if i can tolerate the taste of the sap regardless of its cloudiness, it'll make good syrup. ive experimented too over the years and bad tasting sap make bad syrup. but ideally i want to boil...
5 quart synthetic cone filter with several prefilters. It's not the most efficient but it works for now. Once the rest of my operation is Whete I want it, I will tackle filtering. But it 'polishes'...
thank you. Small improvements each year.
A little bit of yesterday's harvest. Still more bottling to do when I get a minute. [ATTACH=CONFIG]15818[/ATTACH
dont be insulted but are the lines plumbed correctly? one year, i hooked up the lines in reverse.i wont do that again.
We got our first boil in today. We grabbed about 90 gallons on monday. There was just enough cold here to kick start it. I will finish it tomorrow morning. Better weather seems to be coming.15804
thanks. we should have gone this route right from the start. we like spending time out there but would rather be in cooking. today should be an ok run but the weekend should be very good.

we got some sap before the warm up but it wont keep. so we took this time to finish our new mainline and hook all of our taps into it. everything is clean and ready to go. wood is in. while in the...
