I don't expect vapor lock in an open trough to be an issue.
somebody near central Mass that boils with a six inch stack ,woodfired. I'm building a preheater that consists of a spiral trough that wraps around the stack for the sap to trickle down and I'd like...
My neghbors here in north central MA are getting real dark syrup. Is that the case everywhere? I don't boil amymore.
On tanks I have used there is a metal tag stating the material gage, usually 12 but sometimes 14. 12 is thicker.
Check with McMaster-Carr for bulkhead fittings.
I'm stilling kicking, just not as high. I didn't get back to my trough idea last Spring, hospital time got in the way then it was time for hay. Now that the deepfreeze has gone by I can work in my...
i guess most everybody except north of us is about done.
Are you still boiling?
Hey MS, if you are in WI I will be about 1.5 hours from you next week.
I built an arch identical to yours except the top angles face inwards and the pan is 28. I tried a shelf against the tank/stack over the pan to pick up heat and it didn't amount to much. Whatever...
I don't boil anymore, did back in the 70s when I built my own rig. It had a 12 inch square pipe to a chimney I built. I did that when I was getting my welding business started. I'm retired now and...
What diameter is your stack? The spiral trough to preheat I'm building is for 6" but I can form a die for bigger if that's what most of you guys (and gals) use. Trying to develop something to...
I've finished the tooling and made a few sections. I don't have much heat in my shop and my hands are real sensitive to cold but as soon as it warms above freezing I'll make enough to wrap a 2 foot...
Hi, where are you? I'm just north of Quabbin Res. I built a little rig for my grandson a few years ago for about 10-15 taps. Worked good. I'm working on an idea for a preheater off the stack. What...
The factory I was working at could only press flues 6" deep by 6" wide which is why it took so much sap. Your's wouldn't likely be much different than regular flues. When you have run out of sap and...
I made a V flue pan. Worked ok but took a lot of sap to cover the flues before you could start boiling. Finishing was ok because you can chase the sap with water.
I'm trying to design a spiral trough for the stack for the sap to trickle down for preheat. Working on tooling for my press.
Hey Charlie, where abouts in Holliston are you? My college riend had farm on Hill St in Medway. I made a block setup for my grandson with an 18" x 36" pan. I'm a retired welder/fabricator with a...
I took apart a microwave once that had a small blower in it. I use it to get my shop stove going.
I'm not doing much welding anymore, back and legs aren't working to well. Brain still does tho. Thinking about a flexible trough to wrap around the stack for preheating. What dia is your stack?
Hey Mike. You the guy with the 2 Indians? You building bigger?
My taste buds are good enough but I have never detected any aluminum taste in anything. As far as alzheimers my family has used aluminum pots since before I was born, almost 81 years ago, and my...
The only thing I've seen "eat" aluminum is tomatos. I've made several aluminum pans that all worked good. However, Dr Perkins told me aluminum is not approved by the maple people altho he said not...
I've made a couple out of a tank. I cut it like a baby cradle leaving a foot at the end for the stack on top and made a 2x4 flat pan. In the pan I put one divider crosswise in the middle, 3 from the...
I acquired some cast iron house radiators, different sizes. They come apart and would make good evaporator grates if anybody is interested.
