I'll be done tomorrow. We made 30 gallons of dark this afternoon with 1% sap. I'll leave the pumps on until it warms up tomorrow and then collect and get it in the evaporator. It'll be close to 1600...

Still pulling in a steady flow of clear sap. Made 70 gallons of AR last night leaning toward the light side. Every barrel I've made this year is the same grade. Weird.

Most guys blend the two. We have always done that(the 4 years I've been doing it) but this year I bought a big load of hemlock slabs and went with primarily that. What I found out was that although...

I've been hearing a lot about low sugar this year. My sugar was up a few points more than average. We are in a deep valley with steep hills. In some places there is only room for the river and the...

Still collecting clear sap on the south border. Making about a drum per day of AR. No light, no dark all season so far. Sugar is getting low, about 1.3% but the best I get around here is 2% anyway....

Introducing a controlled leak at the bottom of a ladder via a valve is sometimes good for getting the sap to the top. I don't do it but a lot of guys do.

If I had to guess, I'd say you will have at least 23-24" at the other end of the ladders. I have 2- 2565s giving me 26" at the releaser with 1275 taps. I have one small (3') ladder with no detectable...

I run them on 3hp.engines no problem at all. I don't even use all the power. I get the right pulley ratio and idle them down. I ran 2 of them on a 5.5hp. They use much less gas that way.

I've run both a 1550 and a 2565 on a gas engine. you can use a 3hp. for either pump just fine, in fact, I don't use all the power available. I get the right pulley ratio and idle them down. I used to...

28' Is doable with sap ladders however, I'd consider doing 3 or 4 ladders. You'll be adding a few more feet to get your pitch. I'd also hold out for a Gast 2565. It will get you about 5 more hg's and...

    Unbelievable sap run.

As has been typical of this season, I ran the Vac. pumps all day yesterday and didn't collect a drop of sap at 37 deg. Last evening the temp. dropped to around 33 so we shut off the pumps for the...

That's all relative to the severity of the leak and the amount of cfm's available. The estimate is around 7% sap loss per inch of vac. You'd have to check things out with a vac. guage to be certain.
