Would it be feasible to bury the line so it does not freeze?
Dave, I wish you the best possible outcome!
We have used a single action one for several years with good success. It does run on a float system. We have ours in a small building with the mechanical extractor dumping into one end of a tank...
Do you have vacuum at the woods where the 550 taps are? If you do you might consider a Lapierre vacuum operated transfer pump, it would easily push sap up 18 feet and then 1000 ft to the shack.
I also have insurance with them, called a special farm policy, commercial truck insurance on the sap / farm truck and some rental insurance. We had a couple of claims and there was no problem. ...
Thanks, I have contacted Brandon at Daniels and have some 5/16 adapters on order.
Lapierre has a good selection.
What kind of setup do you guys use to mount the gauges to the mainline?
Consider signing up for the Lake Erie Maple Expo on Friday 11/11. They have a 5 hour tubing installation class that you might benefit
from.
Rather than make W.A.G., why don't you go put in a few random circular plots and calculate the taps per acre from those? A circle with radius of 52 ft 8 inches is 1/5 of an acre. Count the taps...
Congrats, and remember, Work expands to fill the time available!
Consider attending the Lake Erie Maple Expo on Nov. 11 and 12 in Albion, Pa. All of the maple companies will be there in the trade show. After that still plenty of time to order and buy what you...
Why don't you try one of the Canadian maple equipment companies that manufacture RO machines and ask if they would make some lines to your needed length?
I also have had a few claims with USPS they always have paid and generally they return the $50.00 insurance plus the flat rate shipping cost of the damaged box. I have had two instances where my...
The committee for the Lake Erie Maple Expo is hard at work planning this years event. We would like to hear any suggestions about topics for the classes. What are some "hot topics" that would...
Lapierre makes a 3/16 seasonal spout with one barb. Designed to be thrown away and replaced with a new one next year.
Spud, sorry to hear about your father. You have many good memories of all the good times with him.
Did not make it to Verona this year and just wondered what some reports were?
gmcooper, you are correct, the trees to be cut should be marked both at DBH and on the stump before any cutting begins. The harvest area should be delineated by 2 or 3 stripe on boundary trees. If...
If you go with a wet dry system I think a 1.25" dry line and a 1" wet line would do the job nicely. If you only use a wet line I think a 1.5" line is needed. It depends a little on how many cfm...
Sometimes a retailer will put a 40% markup on items and then it does not sell due to the high price. I don't like to see my syrup sitting on the shelves not moving.
Does it seem that the retailers are happy with the 15 to 20 % or are they marking the retail price even higher in order to make more margin?
Will your pressure washer suck the permeate or do you have it pumped to the washer, is it hot?
Just wondering what ideas / methods are being used to wash SS syrup barrels? Any ideas for some type of a pressure sprayer?
I happen to have an empty quart container from Trader Joe's, the container was given to me and it was empty when I received it. It is a cardboard type and has a "best by" date of 10/2/16 so this sap...
