Getting crushed... I've been working my 2x3 mason and RO bucket almost non-stop. I may be working from a life raft tomorrow! Careful what you ask for I suppose...

Nice! 8 degrees here tonight but 50s later in the week. cRaZy weather... I think I'm going to hold out another week... Will probably change my mind tomorrow! LOL
Anyone tapping out here in Metro West.? Extended forecast makes it look like it’s reasonable to start. I’ve been burned too many times to wanna jump in but I’m worried I’m going to miss the window…...
I connected with Carl. He wrote back right away! 6 gallons is sufficient for my RB20.
Tapped in Needham and planning to run the RO machine all day today (2/26) and boil down tomorrow (2/27). Excited and the run is STRONG!
Year 3 and I put new membranes in to my RO bucket kit. I pushed 6 gallons of spring water through to get the preservatives out. Is that enough? I watched some videos on line and there's a HUGE range...
So our taps have dried up or they are producing really cloudy sap. It looks like we might get one burst of cold nights and warm days here in Mass. Is it worth pulling the taps out and putting clean...
Sap run has all but stopped here in the MetroWest area just outside of Boston. No relief in sight. Looking like a really really really short season. if the weather gets cold at night again in a week,...
Sap is producing around 2% but Syrup has been darker than I’ve seen in the last five years. Warm temps and no snow?
Tapped in Needham this weekend - Feb 23. First day was 27 at night and 60 the next day. We’ve been collecting the buckets 2x a day over the last 3 days to keep up. Expecting a slowdown with night...
Glad I didn’t put any buckets out today. Holy wind!
This Feb is so mild compared to last year and those freezing cold days with windstorms. 10 day forecast in metrowest area shows more temps in the low 40s, nights in the 20s and 30s. Might have to tap...
Last year we worked out of 2.5 gallon plastic buckets with lids for storage and that was enough to keep up with the flow if we cooked down 2x a week. The question is really about the next...
This is my fifth year tapping and we're going to go from 25 to 30 taps to 35 maybe 45. Thoughts or recommendations on storage capacity? I'm working in a suburban neighborhood using buckets and...
I just picked up a bottle of Date syrup of curiosity. Pretty thick but really nice flavor. If you are curious about something a little different but surprisingly similar to maple syrup, check it out....
We are similar in size. Are in a sugar shack? I'm running the evaporator in the driveway and thinking about running the RO machine in the garage the night before. Problem is that I've got 30 ft...
Agreed. Very similar to what we do with great results.
This year in Needham, the best window was:
March 6 - March 24
Footnote: Some good days in late Feb/Early March but we also had some days in there w single digits and a couple of major wind storms...
Totally possible! I asked our guy about timing for next season. He said August is when his pallet supply cranks up - apparently most snow blowers are bought in Aug. Because of the tax free weekend...
Good to know! I'll be giving the store owner a gallon of syrup as a thank you and remind him to call us as soon as he starts collecting the clean pine pallets. We chopped up 75 this year. I think...
We just picked up some pallets to do one last burn too but the smelled TERRIBLE while they were burning - dark black/brown smoke too. We're are thinking they must have had some sort of preservative...
Thinking about pulling taps this weekend - ran out of wood and had to make some late night runs to gather up more pallets. These last three weeks have been perfect!!
After an AMAZING week things have really slowed down this a.m. with the warm night. Fingers crossed another good week coming!
Just did this for a fun picture :-) I don't ever run it this hot.
Here she is with the fan on high at night. I ran it hot just for the picture, this is not how I normally, run her. Only took 30 seconds to get, there! 19654
