Hoping for a great season. Light those fires.
Tapped in Bellingham today. Running pretty good.
Another year making "the nectar of the gods"
Let the games begin.
I had the same problem last season. There was a family of juvenile coyotes that enjoyed chewing on the lines. I had to replace almost 1000 feet of 5/16. That's besides the squirrel chews. Target...
Started to reset lines and tap last week. Will finish tomorrow. Hoping to hit " Big Sap" next week. Let the games begin. Just a hobby. Ha!
I no longer get excited about surging. Faught it for years and didn't win. The sap comes out of the tree and the pump brings it in. Success.
When you get to 1" the thermometer probe is no longer in the syrup and will not read syrup temp. It doesn't mean that the syrup is no longer warm enough to bottle.
Best advice I got was
" don't reinvent the wheel - they've already done it"
Wishing you a great year. Hope it runs so heavy that you can't keep up with it. Ha!
Fivesaps Sugar house in Bellingham has finished tapping. We're about a week early but will probably let it run for a day or so to flush the lines. Sugars are running a bit and the reds don't seem to...
Very tempting to tap now but I plan to wait for the forecasted freeze in February. Definitely by Valentines day.
Best of luck this year. Hope you have a banner season.
Bascom has them. Quoted me $115 yesterday
I had a poly tank with a 4 inch slit made by a pallet fork. My son in law welded it with hair dryer and plastic weld ten years ago. Still holding well. Look on youtube for plastic weld info
Yesterday, Friday the 29th, was our last boil of the year. Just above average syrup production with minor issues. New Deer Run RO, Lapierre filter press and CDL water jacket bottling unit performed...
I have a very similar setup with a shurflo 4048. The mainline backs up a bit then the shurflo kicks in. Drawing 27 lbs - sounds good to me.
You're most welcome. Always glad to help out whenever we can. Hope you have a great season.
hope you have a great season. See you soon.
We are tapped at Fivesaps Sugar House. Missed the first run this week but ready for the rest of the season. Very anxious to get the new Deer Run RO up and running and try out the new filter press....
Could you post a picture of the 1/2 inch riser? New to me.
I have 500' of 3/4 mainline with 200 taps on a shurflo 4048. Drawing 20 inches all day . There is about a 5 to 7 degree slope which helps .
We finished tapping 280 in Bellingham. Everything running well. Shurflo drawing 22 lbs. vac and we haven't tightened lines or checked for leaks yet.
We should have our first boil today.
Let the...
Rule # 1 - don't let your valves freeze
Rule # 2 - refer to rule # 1
Feed tank valve and feed line froze up once - took forever to get it to release.
Sean, bring the two lines into a section of 1/2 inch mainline. The shurflo is set up for 1/2 inch and that should take care of you. I have some 1/2 inch and saddles for you if you need them.

We are running @ 200 taps on a Shurflo 4048 and it works fine. We do have around a 5% grade on our lines also which helps.
Great little pump. We're pushing sap up a 1 inch line, 500 feet with a fifty foot rise directly out of the collection tank. About 10 gallons a minute.
