All my trees are forest trees ,slower to get started, looking at later next week to tap. I'm not too far from you farmer 194803. Keep posting your results.
I'm with you Jacob, tapping around the middle of February.
After a 1.2 in rain my sugar went from my normal 2.0 to 1.7 overnight. I checked back in my records and this is about 3 weeks before I usually see a drop to 1.7. my trees are all in a woods with...
I'm planning on tapping around Feb. 20 give or take a few days. Cold weather coming.
Prayers for a quick recovery. You wisdom and advice is something I always look forward to.
Production for my 183 taps was 3910 gallons of sap yielding 78 gallons of syrup for 1.7 quarts of syrup per tap. We had 2 stretches of too cold weather cut my output.
I'm in North central Illinois and my sugar has dropped to 1.3% and sap is turning cloudy , one more boil for us and that's it. Time may be running out for sw Iowa too.
Sap holding at 2%. Yield going down, I'm at 66% of last year's production, it is getting a little cloudy but making good syrup.Hoping to get another week, we'll see.Marc
183 taps this year. Collected 700 gallon so far, cold nights this week may slow things down some. Marc
I have put up some new lines and made new drops but not thinking of tapping for about another month.
Things are starting to wind down, sugar has dropped to 1.5%. Still getting decent flow on the tubing , been an ok year so far.
I wear Howard Leight Impact electronic earmuffs when hunting. They amplify sounds as well as cut loud noises.
Finally enough snow melted so I could finish tapping, up to about 400 gal sap so far. Not much today but weather looks good for the rest of the week.
I'm about 200 miles north of you. Middle of February is my normal tapping date. I have added about 40 taps this year to get around 200 total.Best of luck.
A two wheel drive tractor with a front end loader will struggle in any soft ground or snow with a load in the bucket, I have a 39hp Deere fwa with loader and backhoe it does a great job for what it...
Only if you order the flux capacitor option
Looks good, do you add anything in the water or just straight? Marc
I am a small producer selling enough to cover the costs of production. I have sold enough so far to cover about a third of my costs. If and when the farmers markets get started I hope to make enough...
I ended up with 3600 gallons of sap from my 140 taps, this was 1200 gal more than last year.Sugar ran from a high of 2.3 at the start to 1.3 when I pulled the taps. I had replaced some of my lines...
I have only had one decent weekend of runs in northern Il. We are just thawing out again after the latest cold spell. This week looks to be game on for us.
Had my first collection of the year yesterday, 250 gallons. I will collect again in a few hours and boil tomorrow. Weather looks to turn cold and snowy for the rest of the week.
Finished tapping today. Around 130 taps, only 2 holes were wet. Still more things to do but let the fun begin
With the hollow core rope I use field tip off an arrow , the threaded end fits into 3/16 tubing and it's easy to push into the rope. I did a little bit of grinding on the tip to take off any edges
I have been repairing lines, putting up new lines, making drops, clearing brush in anticipation of tapping around Feb. 15th. Wife and I take a trip to Florida to see a granddaughter during early...
