I have 492 bag/holders ready to go... It will be an interesting season with all the snow! Stay Tuned & Happy Sapping everyone!
I pulled the last of my taps Saturday afternoon. Overall a great season! Just over 4,000 gallons of sap collected and 125 gallons of syrup on 340 taps. My best season ever! My Memprotec 200 was a...
I too will be pulling my taps tonight/tomorrow. I will update with final numbers after processing this weekend, but so far over 3,500 gallons of sap and about 102 gallons of syrup. I am ready for...
I have the same Smoky Lake set up and I have probably run 100 gallons through it in the past 8 months. I have never had that issue with my press. The only time I have a hard time pumping is when I...
To date I have boiled down just over 1,000 gallons of sap, with 26 gallons of syrup, plus what is left in the 2x6 Smoky Lake Evaporator. About half of my 325 taps have not run yet, weather looks to...
4010 all in all the bags work very well, I have had some issues with furry tailed tree rats (squirrels) in the past but they seem to be leaving the bags alone this year for the most part. I make...
4010 That is a good surprise! I had a different one today, my dad went to collect this noon and my 20+ bags at the local church were slashed!
I live about an hour west of Minneapolis and the frost two weeks ago was 4.5- 5 feet deep. We have had very little snow cover for most of the winter until the last 3 weeks and since then we have...
@ Silver Maple - thanks for your advice. I put another 100+ taps out on Sunday and collected 215 gallons last night from my 325 taps. Once the snow melts some I think I will try to put another...
Appears that I will have my first boil tonight! Weather looks good and plenty of moisture for the trees, unfortunately many of my silver maples have huge buds on already! Good luck everyone for a...
Looks like the Silver Maples may be done here for me unless this cold snap will produce a few more days of better sap. Hard maples still going strong!
Last night I boiled down about 200 gallons of sap and produced some very light, sweet syrup, but there is a slight off taste to it. Prior to this I had boiled down about 600 gallons of sap which...
Collected over 500 gallons off 300 taps yesterday. Had some issues with squirrels chewing on the bags, but the trees were pouring like crazy yesterday had to empty some bags twice!
Processed 120 gallons of sap last night about half of my 300 taps are still dry. I plan on putting out more taps this weekend.
I am about an hour west of Minneapolis. I put out about 130 taps in a local golf course yesterday, about half were just starting to wake up (majority are silver maples). I will be putting out the...
Anyone thinking about tapping for the coming warm-up this weekend?
I have always bottled into glass containers and sold my syrup to neighbors, friends, etc. I am now looking at selling my product at some local craft stores and I would like to make sure that when I...
2013 was an 8 week season for me, heavy wet snow twice/week. It was awesome!
Last year I averaged about .33 gallons of syrup per tap. 2013 I averaged over a gallon per tap (only 15 taps back then)
280 bags out since Sunday (more going out tonight), 130 gallons of sap so far. Most taps just starting to run; hoping it gets crazy this weekend! Enjoy the run!
I am going to put taps out tomorrow (Saturday). I may not hang the bags if they aren't dripping yet, but at least the taps will be there. Good luck to everyone!!
That is how I did it last year, however on some of the very windy, humid days the wind blew the steam back down into the shed which made it hard to see.
95 gallons on 290 taps all gravity; 3300 gallons of raw sap.
