We put taps in a week or so ago and worked on line leaks during the last couple of thaw days. We are ready for the weather that’s headed our way!

I look forward to the sugaring season all year long. I would feel like i missed Christmas if i skipped out on it.

We are based in Columbus, OH and had a very mild November and December. Some farms in the area “cancelled” their syrup season giving the reason that there wasn’t enough cold days...
We are running our second year on a BHR side by side extractor and vacuum. We are working on getting our stuff setup for the year and we cannot get the vacuum gauge on the extractor to reach more...
We had a wonderful season here in Columbus with all of our upgrades- and are in love with the RO and vacuum. We almost tripled our yield from last year and have 2 more mainlines to add next year! ...
Hello,
We are having a great time with our new tubing and vacuum systems this year. We have already almost doubled our 2017 yield, and have 100 less taps. BUT we don’t have another freeze in...
I am aiming to finish on the evap. I think we have been calculating to around 217. We are 911 above sea level. (Easy to remember number). I will try 219 and see how that does. Of course now we...
Hello!
I have a smoky lake guardian auto draw system. I am using the barometric pressure+elevation calculation for auto draw off temp, adding 1.5 degrees F and still drawing at 64-65 degrees brix. ...
We boiled 300 gallons yesterday, and even though our electric was off for the RO and our AUF, we are in love with our new evap. Drew off our first round around 3:00 pm and hung in for a second draw...
I think this is probably it. How do you know which side will take sap first? So, once you identify that you put the swing all the way up or down on that side?
Thanks for y’all’s...
It is definitely the releaser. The first thing i check is the coupling from the vac to release. It gets suction.

Hello! I have an AirBlo vacuum with a BHR double vertical extractor. This is our first season. Sometimes when i start it up i get no vacuum. Then i poke around on the extractor and hold the...
That would be helpful. Do you just put the gauge straight into the mainline or saddle it in from a piece of 5/16? I think i could do that pretty easily.

We just upgraded to a vacuum system. We have 5 mainlines, 3 of which are up and operational. We are pull 22-24 inches at the pump, but wanted to know what things i could check to increase pressure....
We put in about 70 taps on Friday and they were dripping by late afternoon. That is 2 of our 5 lines and we were pulling about 24 inches of vacuum. Going to get the other line that is fully...
Looks like we are going to try and get about half of our taps out on Friday. We upgraded to tubing on vacuum and only have about half of our taps ready to go. So we plan to put out those 200 this...

So how do I get this DE out of the syrup? Will the maple syrup DE take it out?

New filter aid has been ordered! Now I wait…

Just tried to add additional DE- it went through quickly. BUT came out just as cloudy as it went in. I let it circulate for 15 minutes with no improvement in cloudiness.

When we first put it through we were at 190. It still slowly slugged through and the temp dropped quickly.

I just put 2 cups in 4 gallons? Doing some research it may be the DE I am using. It is food grade, but not specified for maple.

We just got a Smokey Lake Filter Press this season. We must be doing something wrong, as it takes about 3 hours to Filter a gallon of sap. I am not sure what we are missing. Can anyone give...
Oh no- there is no way I am waiting.... I am just trying to decide to try and get a welder in on Monday, and boil on Tuesday or patch it with a quick curing epoxy and boiling Monday. I have too...
