Got 100 taps in in the Newberry area. Started to run pretty good. Looks promising for the next 10 days.
RMG in Rudyard Michigan got 31,000 gallons of sap yesterday. That’s a lot of syrup.
I bought a vacuum filter a few years ago and it works like a charm. Really cut down the time it took to filter compared to the orlon bag filter and 3 pre filters.
Finally got a big run yesterday. Got 210 gallons and it looks like we may have one good one left on Saturday. Have 15 gallons syrup so far and looks like another 5 or so after I boil. Gonna be busy.
I gotta try the bucket ro. 16-24 hour boils are aging me.
Put in 100 taps today at Tahquamenon Maples. About 1/4 were dripping pretty good. If I can find the buckets I can do another dozen.
Gotta get the evaporator ready, clean the head tank and storage...
I hope me and myself get paid vacation or they may not show up next year.
Anyone try the RO bucket?
Has anyone tried the RO bucket and if so what are your impressions?
You will love the simplicity and the speed of filtering.
When myprefilter clogged with syrup still inside the ring I just scraped the predicted off to one side with a pancake flipper. Might try just putting the syrup into a prefilter bag on top of the flat...
I bought the vacuum filter last year. Best investment I’ve made for syrup. No more cone filter for me. No more hassles. That was the worst part of syruping.
Finished up my last boil this morning. An additional 3.5 gallons takes me to 21 gallons bottled with an additional 3 gallons boiled down to sugar. Best year ever by a pint. Pulled taps when they were...
I tapped 100 on Sunday and Monday. A few had up to a gallon or two today but most had a pint to a quart. Looks good in a few days though
Cheer up yoopers, only 5-6 weeks till tapping(hopefully). Is this the year we’ll be boiling into May?
Finished up my last boil today in 70+ degree weather. Ended up the year with 13 gallons plus a gallon of sugar. Had times of 7-8 days with no sap. Not good overall but had a lot of fun with friends...
Time for my first boil of the year. 190 gallons to start with. I am usually done by now.
Got about 100 taps in for a week and got 75 gallons. Just about enough for the first boil. Doesn't look good for the next 5 days. When it does break we'll be real busy
Sounds like Henny Penny. Feel for you. I had to miss a season due to shoulder season. Had time to evaluate my operation and make some major changes.
Merry Christmas. May everyone have a great sugar season.
Ya I gotta get going. Only 4 months till we so here. I can easily procrastinate for 3 months. Thinking of going to a drop flue instead of my flat 2x6. Then I'll need more taps, better filter, etc....
Looks like I won't have to lie anymore.
Whomever said "a watched pot never boils" wasn't a sugar maker or it would have been "an unwatched evaporator always boils over". Sheesh what a rookie mistake.
Finally tapped today, put in 100. Dripping pretty good. Glad to finally get started.
