Started boiling yesterday. Got through 35 gal of sap, collected 30+ gallons this morning and it is still running. Going to be a busy week.
I have the Starcat also. Set the stack up yesterday, just need some sap to flow to get started.
Tapped on Tuesday (16), collected 10 gallons of sap today. Looking good for this weekend.
Anyone get started for 2022 yet?
I put in 12 taps yesterday, working on getting evaporator set up today.
I'm Back !!!
Long story short, the property I've been tapping is for sale. So I found someone who gave me my price for my evaporator and sold it back in November. The property has not sold and I...
First year with 2x4 XL and couldn't be happier. I have a blower 14' of 6" stack. Never had enough sap to boil more than 8 hours which is fine by me. Figure I got between 10-14 GPH.
Did my last boil today. Taps are drying up and wood is running low. Could possibly boil again on Tues., but that would mean sap sitting in tank for 6 days, not going to chance it.
Checking and fixing lines I can handle, carrying sap I can't.
Up to 30" of snow so far this month and the sap is flowing good. Sugar content is rising, mostly 2% now. Still can not get to 10 buckets that are in the woods. Collected 90 gallons from the other 20...
What kind of tubing are you gong to do? 3/16? I have 30 buckets this year and am having the same issue's. I haven't been able to get to 10 of them since the first storm. Want to go to 3/16 next year...
Well, this nor'easter has made things tough. No sap since Wed. Could not get to my shed where I boil yesterday because of a foot of snow. Got it plowed enough to get in today but no power to run pump...
Mostly red oak, hickory, ash and maple. only use dead/down trees. Had a friend tear up his oak flooring and mix that in also.
Cool shack
Dumped about 50 gallons of sap today. 65 degrees yesterday and 75 today sitting in the sun in plastic buckets, not taking a chance.
First boil Sat. on 2x4 Mason, holy smokes (steam). My ventilation system was not up to snuff and filled the garage with steam. Boiled 110 gallons in about 9 hours. Would have taken 2 days on the old...
How is it going for everyone? Tapped 30 last Sat. 2/10 and have collected about 85 gallons this week. Only getting about1.5% so far
I resemble that remark :)
Bought a used Mason 2x4XL to replace my block arch with hotel pans. Moving the operation indoors to the garage. Also got an IBC tank and 2 burner gas stove for finishing. Going to go from 20-25 taps...
Collected 20 Gallons from 16 taps today. The other 4 dried up. Hoping to get enough for 1 more boil.
Being that I am a backyarder, I rigged up one of these on my filter holder. Used it the first time today and it really does work. Poured a gallon + through 2 pre filters and filter in no time flat....
Finally got my taps out yesterday. Collected 30 gal from 15 taps, avg. 3.4%. Checked my block arch and it was a mess. Had to replace stack and redo the insulation among other things. Don't have...
Patiently waiting till late Feb. Tapped in Jan. last year had a good run then it shut down. Then we got another run and all my buckets had gotten moldy.
Collected 21 gallons on Monday (20 taps) and got another 28 gallons by noon yesterday. Got that all boiled down. Hopefully I have enough this morning to get another boil in (I took the day off so I...
I haven't collected any sap since Tuesday afternoon. What little has run has frozen solid. Nothing to boil yesterday or today. Hopefully get a run today so I have enough to boil tomorrow.
