Welcome Bill and Ted - Enjoy your excellent adventure!
Soon as I get off work I need to get hometo finish up boiling. I will be doing so in a 4' x 8' steel pan.
We have collected about 600 gals so far...about half of what we normally do. The buds around my place are opening up, but the taps aren't running either. I think it is time to pull taps here...
Well it's finally running.... I think we are going to have a 3-day season here!
I noticed all the red tree tops as I was driving around today. Lots of places to check out for next year....

Put in another 20 taps or so tonight... Standing by, it has to come, right....?
I tap a lot of farmstead soft maples, big old trees. Our best producer last spring split in half this summer. First one big side of a crotch just fell off one day, not windy or anything. The tree was...
Oh yeah, no worries...
Last year we put most of our taps in on either 3/16 or 3/19, so not too worried yet.

Hello, My name is Riley, and I'm a maple-holic.
I grew up in central MN on a little walleye lake they call Mille Lacs. Lots of sugar camps in that area when I was a kid. Dad had a sheetmetal shop...
Keep us posted on that!
I have only used a thermometer when finishing syrup. I do have a wine hydrometer. Is there any difference?
Just outside of Millville. We tap mainly "farmstead maples" :)
