Few responses:
The actual slope of this section is between 1 and I would say closer to 3% depending on where you are. Where the tank would go under this plan has a decent drop off from the rest of...
Great! thanks for the advice on the pumps. We were also contemplating trying to go with a gas generator to power a vacuum set-up that we can wire a thermostat to cycle on and off at a pre-set...
Hello all -
Hope your seasons were all good! As the 2022 season winds down, we are looking ahead to next year.
We are looking to expand our current 400 tap operation - mixed 3/16 on natural...
We pulled ours Monday. Long season so glad to be done!
We finished with 100 gallons and all tasted great! We started light, darkened up bid season then finished light.
Thank you guys...We did enter the Geauga County Festival...Cant with for the feedback!!I will keep an eye out for the IMSA comp.
Still making some good syrup!! excellent run after the thaw to end the weekend and we are flowing at 1+ gallon/tap yesterday and today....probably going to call it after tomorrow. Temps look to stay...
Are there any upcoming syrup judging competitions??
We would love to be able to have our syrup judged. Every sugar maker always makes the best syrup, and with the time invested rightfully so!

Had a good run yesterday! little over 1/gallon tap on 5/16 lines without vacuum - never got the portable pumps set. and almost 1.5/tap out of our 3/16 lines. Looks to be a busy week ahead now that...
Greetings -
Our sugar bush is down in Canaseraga ( Swain ) but we live up in Rochester. Here is our data from last weeks mon/tues run:
3/16 taps are natural vacuum and produced .7 gallons/tap...
I see that burch bottle only has linerless caps. Has anybody had any issues with either leaking or syrup going bad with these caps?
Not required as pro cons are self priming, but highly susceptible to damage when run dry. I would say highly recommended running a feed pump from what I have seen on here. Only caveat may be how much...
3/4hp with a 1/2hp shallow well feed pump. The 3/4hp is slightly undersized when I push the 250 psi but works. Somewhere there is a procon chart that spells out motor requirement at different system...
Procon style pumps are positive displacement rotary vane pumps. This means that there is a definitive amount of fluid with each revolution achieving the rated GPM. This pump curve changes very little...
I have the dewalt hedge trimmer pole saw combo... works unbelievable!!
Mike - what kind of evaporation rate are you getting? We are looking at either a 2.5x8 or a 3x10 deluxe. Like you we thought burning off road diesel would streamline refueling the farm equipment.
Those are my boys...the one adjusting the r/o is 8...he loves the science behind the syrup..he will measure bryx and color transmittance all day if he could...
Yea, we have tweaked the r/o a few...
Yes - that is the same pressure switch that I ordered. You can order with or without the waterproof housing. It added a little bit to the cost ( maybe $40 ) but Im not 100% on that.
I do not...
I concur with Gary on this one. We had 225 taps last year on a single 4x40 membrane and increased tap count to 325 this year while adding a 2nd 4x40 membrane.
We had to run multiple passes last...
any of you guys who have the smoky lake oil fired evaporators still boiling this week? Would love to see one in action if so... let me know. Thanks.
We boiled down 675 yesterday. Hoping to get a few freeze thaw cycles next week if the trees hold off til then. Certainly have started to gain some ground on slow start as of late.
Its been a weird...
I was 218.2 down in southern tier today.
Regarding the app - I shouldve said I use it as a starting twmp, but always have to add 1.4 degrees and then use that as a start point. I did notice the station they pull off ofnis quite a bit lower...
All depends on elevation and atmospheric conditions. Ours has been anywhere between 216 and 221
It may also change during the course of a boil. I use the saptapapp to get a starting temp and then...
We still have yet to have a great run down in souther tier. Our north woods are thawed after warm spell. Hopefully recharge for a better run middle next week!! Sugar is much higher 2-2.6% range where...
