so you collected 500 gal of sap per day for 2 months? how many taps?
i assume you meant 310 gal.... my son had spring break so he stayed at camp with me for a few days... got maybe 40-50 gal of sap on some of those days... he leaves for a doc appt n i get 155 gal.......
It’s all start n stop here. Good run Monday very little Tuesday. Haven’t had 2 or 3 straight days of good runs. Hope that changes starting today. Forecast looks promising anyway but Ma nature sure...
Started a boil yesterday n had 0 sappage. Will hopefully run enough today n tomorrow to complete the batch.
Hmm... when I left camp yesterday most bags had 3-4” of sap after collecting the previous afternoon. That’s a decent run for me. We are very close so identical weather n snow conditions. Your taps...
Know a guy who for various reasons will be holding sap for 2 weeks before he can boil. Looks like it will be one week for me. Cold nights n the barrels packed in snow- I’m not worried about it.
I’m about 60 miles East of you. Have a friend near hagerman lake. His camp always has colder temps n way more snow than mine. Collected 50 gal from 70 taps yesterday. Bags ranged from nothing to 2...
Tapped yesterday. Run started late but most bags (those that stayed on the trees!) have 3-4” in them. Was so windy I thought the Soo Liner took a detour through my 40! Hoping for better today. Will...
[QUOTE=Plungerke;391874]We tapped on Saturday, 162 buckets hanging. Sunday we prepared a new ridge for 3/16” gravity pipeline, had to trim beech saplings out of the way, discovered there is a lot...
I did not. I have a doc appointment this morning n will drive up afterwards to do some prep work today n will tap tomorrow. My bud up by the swan Peterson flowage got @40 gal Friday out of 60 taps...
Read your post with interest. My younger generation all like the idea of making our own syrup but seem content to let me do the work! To be fair they are working and have kids of their own so they...
So with the warm weather my friend wound up tapping yesterday. by the time he got everything organized he started tapping at 3pm. at sunset he hopped in the utv and checked on his bags. they all had...
Being on the lazy side, i finish in my 2x4' boiling pan. i try to boil between 200-250 gal of sap so i have a safe depth of syrup when it's time to draw off. It takes me 3 days to do this. so for 2...
a few years back i swore that i would avoid frozen sap barrels and hold off on tapping early. sometimes i can wait & sometimes i just can't!! this year's temps look very good for an early run. snow...
Got a buddy who's thinking of tapping a lil north of foster city next week... temps look like there will be sappage the 1st weekend of march. i'm gonna run up to waucedah with the plow this week and...
spoke too soon. LP diver called 2 days later and told me he got stuck going in. he's looking into getting a smaller truck to try again but i don't have much hope... will probly have to do something...
UP Propane made it in to camp so there will be a stove, gas lights, and a shower at sugar camp this season! i will also be heading to camp this weekend and will try packing some trails down in the...
Fighting all that early season snow and ice last year wasn't much fun at my age... will check the temp forecast in 2-3 weeks and then decide when to tap... i have been getting things organized and...
i predict that the early season will be very cold with deep snow, the kind of snow that when the tip of your snowshoe catches a buried branch it takes you a good 10 minutes to get vertical again.....
alpal, i pulled my taps this past weekend but u are probably just smarter than me. i think u will get plenty of sap and will not have to fight as much snow as we did (altho u get more in the bond...
as usual your fabrication amazes me! awesome!
speaking of fabrication, my son has a bug up his butt to make a new arch for next year but has mislaid his plans. do you have any plans or dimensions...
Was wondering how u guys were doing. Sap was flowing yesterday. Collected 135 gal on snowshoes will be starting a boil here shortly. If u guys are up to slumming n a beer i could meet u at odettes...
i enjoyed reading the debate and i liked droseum's last post. i try to be efficient when sugaring with the setup i have. not going to spend a fortune to "improve" my syrup. i produce a pretty dark...
