Went and checked buckets and lines just to confirm my suspicions that the trees didn't give much in the past 4 days.
Looks like a 2 quart average per tree for the past 4 days. Dang, hate...

Finally pulled the first sap of the year 3-16 thru 3-20. 343 Gallons. Unbelievably late. Last year at this time I had processed over 2000.
I started out with a 2 handed tool 3 years ago and this year I bought the Viper. I hardly use my 2 handed anymore. Some people complain it hurts their hands but I dont see a problem.

Cut up 3 trees that fell on my 5/16 gravity lines. End hook pulled out, but other than that no visible damage. 10" of snow in the woods.
Nice enjoyable 20 degree day in the woods.

Replacing taps and drops on 100 trees tomorrow as its supposed to be 25 degrees. Hanging 50 rope nooses on 50 new trees for supporting buckets.
No more 50-60 hour continuous boils for me on the weekends since I got my ROs. now I may do 3 or 4 5-6 hour boils per week.
You will love that R.O. bucket! I love mine so much that I purchased a 2nd one and added 100 more taps. A viscous circle.
Thanks Tim,
That's what I will do then with my drops and taps for buckets. But how about my 5/16 gravity lines, no vacuum. Replace taps yearly? Drops biannual? Thanks.
Exactly, Also you wouldn't want any kid touching an uninsulated box. Another benefit, you will get a much better boil keeping that heat inside.
Thanks Swing, thats what I was envisioning.
Also thanks for the lessons in French.

I believe on page 2 you will see how we bricked UNDER firebox. You probably could do similar but...
Is it pretty easy or self explanatory to do? can you explain or is there a YOUTUBE video?
Thanks
Great advice and thanks to Peter for resetting my password.
Yes, when putting up a new line, i have everything premade while sitting inside by the fire so all I need to do is attach the T to the lines. But i wasn't sure about when replacing drops what best...
With drops going into buckets, is it still preferable to replace taps and drops opposed to trying to sanitize? I'm only doing a couple 100 buckets but still want optimal flow.
When replacing drops and tubing on lines, do you replace the T also or do you just replace the drop and tap/spile/spout? If you only replace the tap and drop, how do you remove tubing from the T?
I guess if I feel straight is that important I need to buy straight. I can carry abought 75 drops with me at a time in a thin walled pvc tube, sorry I cant post a picture.
Yes into 5 gallon buckets. Actually i hang the buckets from a rope to increase my yearly tapping band. i do have a friction fit hole.
Yes I am using the semirigid.
I realize you can buy straight drops, but they are twice as expensive as what I can cut myself out of a spool.
My problem is, at 40" long, they retain the shape of the coil. For the most part it...
Thanks for providing that link Sean.
Am I the only person having problems posting pictures in threads?
I know I have read this before and I know there have been studies. Should taps be changed every year and drops every 3rd? forgot best practice. These are on gravity, not vacuum.
Thanks
I love mine so much that after the first year I bought another for the next year and added 200 taps. I did a quart short of 60 gallons last year. I have the RB 15.
I probably need 30 cases of each.
Thanks
