we tapped feb 18. Its a good thing too. We made almost as much as our last years total just in the last 10 days of Feb.
tap, tube, and vacuum. One can get sap for a few days with no freezing nights
THere is an electric probe one can buy that will shut off the syrup once the bottle is full.
I am thinkng about buying one.
WIll they work if the syrup has foamy bubbles as it nears the top of...

I have a full time day job. I had to let the sap sit in the tanks for 5 days. Could bacteria have eaten the sugar? I have consistantly had 2% for the last 10 years from this woods.
I have 1200 check valve taps on vacuum. In 2016 my sugar never got above 1.5. THis week, my sugar was .5. I ran the vacuum all week. WTF?

I use a surge sp22 vacuum pump with about a horse and a half electric motor,and a mechanical releaser. I run a 5500 watt generator to power this. It uses about 10 gallons of gas in a 12 hour period....
Im using Leaders defoamer. I understand it has corn extracts in it. Has any heard of using Safflower oil, or any other kind of defoamer for people wiht corn alergies?
cool. Ive found that if I just pour a couple gallons at a time into the intake side of my front pan, it comes out the draw off just perfect

well, I adjusted the vacuum regulator, and let the vacuum come up to 24". The pump didnt like it at all. It started getting rattly, so I turned it back down to the 22" it came set to. IM gonna sell...
17,000 gallons of sap from 1000 taps. 400 gallons of syrup from those. 50 gallons of syrup from my road trees and from sap from Whelems.
