Finished out the season here yesterday. Had a large increase over last year. So Im well pleased.
Still trickling in here as well but the end is in sight. Sugar is dropping, Syrup is dark and puts cobwebs in your throat. Maybe a day or two.
If you drill a hole all the way thru a 5 in. tree and put a tap in both sides is that one 5" hole or two 2.5" hole. Thanks asking for a friend:lol::lol:
I tried one and it leaked around the valves. Next I tried just buying an aluminum manifold block on amazon with just 11 1/4 in npt ports in it. I ordered some 1/4 male npt x 3/16 barb and it work...
I currently have a 1/2in main line with 550 taps on it and it only runs around a half full on the best or the best runs usually only a quarter full
Got another 600 gals or so last day or so. 2.4 suger. Syrup dark but taste great. Sap was running clear and quite well this morning.
General, Was your sugar % Low. Seems 25,000 gallons should have done better than .5 gallon a tap.
Great season either way. Congrats.
Wow thats over a half gallon a tap. Nice Haul
If you dont plan to hook up a vacuum pump 1/2in line would have plenty of capacity for 300 taps if the top end is vented. I currently have around 400 on one 1/2 line and it dosnt usually get over...
I collected 330 ish gallons yesterday and it was 2.8. The flow was better than the previous days. Interested to see what today and tomorrow bring after this hard freeze. I did notice the reds...
This is my first year with cv adapters and stubbies. Not much data yet as well. Had 4 or 5 stubby pop off in cold weather, but that is about the same as the old spouts I was using.
If you decide to go with a mainline I would consider just leaving it up in the off season and just taking down the laterals. If you wanted to take everything down, you could spend a little more on...
I really don't understand why some hobby or smaller scale produces have their mind set that there is a big disconnect in installation methods between small, medium, and big. The biggest difference...
My sugar contest is still great 2.9 to 3.3 but just havnt got the flow last few days. Sap is crystal clear. I suspect that things will come back around here with a good freeze or too. Im using CV...
The tempatures seemed good here last couple days but the flow hasn't been great. Maybe barometer too high.
The sap we get over this way usually starts out around 2.0 works its way up to 3 or a little better and then eases off to around 1.5 until the buds pop. We are on tubing and vacuum and usually the...
Sap always takes the easiest path. I have had sap go up lines when there has been something causing back pressure lower down the line. Im guessing that the 5/16 is overloaded and when it runs real...
I wonder if you mixed the hot sauce with some melted petroleum jelly if it would last longer. I know it does with trapping lures.
Whats everyone using for a float valve on homemade preheater for pan without a float box
I went over everything today after the cold spell. Had 5 drops come off dsd taps with the slip collars and had 2 stubbies come out of adapters. Also had one line separate at d&g single barb union....
DO you have any mainline running to your surflo or just 3/16 into a manifold
I currently have 2 500ft 1/2 mainlines that carry 600 3/16 taps to one collection tank. When I installed this I didn't plan to add vacuum and just accept the drop off in vacuum on the lower trees. ...
Thats good Spud your getting such a high rate. Most operations sap price is based on 50% of the bulk syrup price, which is what I posted. Your buyer must be paying you 50% of retail.
