Last boil yesterday. Season totals- 1115 gallons collected, 1005 gallons processed, 22-1/2 gallons syrup. Warm spell 2 weeks ago really hurt my sap runs this past week.
Trees finally thawed out. Got just over 3/4 gallon per tap on the tapholes on my trees that didn't dry up last week. The holes healed and closed off on 20 of my 106 buckets. Sap was crystal clear...
Waiting to for a thaw to see what kind of runs are left. Taps were wet Tuesday and Wednesday but to cold to run. I have about a dozen trees in warmer areas that are all done for the year. Looks...
Got down to 25Flat night. Peeked in the buckets after work tonight and looks they they just started to drip again. Looks like they made it through the warm weekend. Hope to get 3 or more runs this...
Nice reset with 2 nights hitting 24F. Avg. 1.75 gallons per tap. Hopefully my trees can make it through the weekend as next weeks looks cold again.
I’ve had 1 red squirrel in my buckets over the last 12 years of doing this. This year I’ve had a chipmunk and 4 mice so far.
Hoping with the below freezing tonight and cold next week i can at least get another week.
Amazing first week. 545 gallons collected, 480gallons processed and 9 gallons finished syrup.
Collected 220 gallons off 106 buckets last night 2/27 that were tapped Sunday 2/25.
103 buckets hung today. Taps in Southerly face of trees were dripping good.
Favorite-tapping and hanging buckets in the snow
Least-taking buckets down knowing I have to wait another year to do it again!
Thanks John.
When I used to cone filter, my coffee urn would keep the syrup between 180 and 185. I fill it with water and let it run the brew cycle and then dump the water out right before I...
Thanks Craig.
Pic of my setup minus the hoses. Going to try it for this first time this weekend. Looking forward to not using cone filters anymore.23115
I just purchased a used Leader 7.5" Clear 3 Bank with a hand pump and am working on getting it setup to use this weekend.
I was wondering if the intake hose from the syrup source to the pump can...
I have 50 buckets on a landowner who also helps me collect all 100-110 of my buckets throughout the season. He also stops up to help boil occasionally. I give him 2 gallons every year.
Got 103 buckets hung Saturday and collected 125 gallons off them last night. They were still running good at 6:00 pm.
This is just awful. It is the way of the world nowadays. The druggies, criminals and mentally ill are free to do what they want while honest, hard working Americans are the ones paying the price...
Pulled my buckets on Saturday and boiled Saturday night. They were still running strong on Saturday. Got 18.5 gallons off 95 taps for the year.
I use 2 orlons with a dozen pre filters in each and do about 10 gallons per orlon
Got all my buckets hung this weekend-99 total. I may have to throw 1 more out to make an even 100.
Southerly trees were running pretty good yesterday while tapping. My northerly trees are still...
I got 1.25 pints per tap this year even after pulling taps a week early.
I also use left over sap the years I have leftover. I fill the pans and let it sit for a few weeks. I come back empty them and give them a good wipe and rinse and they are good to go for next year....
Got 82 buckets tapped yesterday. 32 in Broome County and 50 one road over in Delaware County. Some were running most were still froze up.
I put in around a 100 buckets with the 5/16" metal hookless bucket spiles. I usually get about a half dozen leakers each year. I always assumed it was the angle of my hole.
I built mine in 2009 and still works great. I arched mine with sheet metal, fire bricks in the fire box and ceramic insulated throughout.
