I don't have too much drop in the area where the 100 taps will be. There are some areas around me that have decent trees and some really nice drop (but it's not my land...) Hopefully I can get some...
From 2002 through 2008 I had a small sugarhouse with a 30x8 leader King drop flue arch. I had approximately 315 buckets that I hung on mostly red maples. The most I made was 84 gallons. In 2008 we...
I tried to search this topic on the forum but was unable to find anything. Hopefully this hasn't been discussed a bunch already...If so, please point me in the right direction to the previous posts....
Check out this story about possibly the largest sugaring operation in the world...

Buy a sap hydrometer and check the permeate to make sure that there is no sweet in it. That would be the best way to double check.

Ben,
Thanks for the very descriptive post. My hope is to have the pipeline in this next fall (2015). Once I have all my lines set, and I know how many taps I am going to have, I will then figure...
Behind my house I have a large ravine where a stream flows 9 months of the year. The ravine stretches about 100 feet across the top and approximately 50 feet deep. I have approximately 700-1000...
It is in a heated room. The room stays at about 45 all winter long. I'll give them a call today to see if they have any suggestions. Thanks Mike
Tried to fire up the RO today and the feed pump won't turn on. On the LED display it says ALM...Assuming that means Alarm? The service light came on too. I opened up the electrical panel and it is...
I like the idea of the telephone poles too. I don't know anyone at the phone/electric company though. Anyone here have any friends that could hook me up with a pole or two?
I could also anchor...
I have scoped it out a bit and there are trees (beech and Ash) on both sides of the ravine. I wasn't sure if I could get wire tight enough but you are right, 1/4 inch could get really tight just...
I have a 33 acre parcel of land that I am going to be tapping soon. My Sugarhouse will sit on a section that is about one acre deep and 8 acres long near the road. (I have almost 1800 feet of road...
So, I was starting a fire in my woodstove the other day and I started thinking about designing a homemade arch...
I have a Heartstone wood stove and in order to get the fire going real good I...
So, I am helping a friend who has a filter press (its a short bank) and he used the wrong type of grease on it. The nut on the pulley was not tight, and it appears that some of the grease got into...
Most of them are already rooted fairly deeply. Plus there are thousands of them. I couldn't really pull them all as quickly as I could cut them. Maybe I should just leave them the way they are...
I walked my land today with a logger and he said that he would be a bit concerned with thinning things as there are a lot of Beech saplings that are mixed in with the sugar maples. He said that once...
I had a 30x8 leader that I converted from wood to oil and it worked GREAT! I took a piece of plate steel, cut a hole for the burner, and made it the exact same size as my doors. I pulled the steel...
Tuckermtn: Nice web site. I could use one of those "reclaimer" machines...talk about a great way to make trails in the woods... Just point it in the direction you want the trail to go and Mow...
The forester did recommend someone but I thought I would see if anyone on here had any particular good luck with someone local. He suggested having me mark the trees with the logger, and then have...
I am in Huntington, VT and have approximately 30 Acres that I would like to have thinned prior to setting up a pipeline system. It is almost a 100% hardwood forest with VERY little evergreen ( lots...
I have found a used 2x4 pan that I believe is english tin. The pan is a bit rusty and I wasnt sure if it is worth buying and trying to clean up. The rust isn't major, but the whole pan is somewhat...
Not sure about the disolving thing... he said that when he came back in the morning the pan was clear of all the niter.
Too good to be true...Can't think of a reason he would do it if it didn't...
I met a guy last year who saved some of the distilled water from his steam-away and used it to clean the front pan. He would drain out the sweet and put it in pails. He would then fill the front...
Finally finished the latest project of converting to oil and adding on to the sugarhouse. Since we didn't need a woodshed anymore we decided to box it in and add some space inside for more storage...
