Another Saturday cutting and splitting wood, 4 out of 5 rows up so far, but I’m behind where I should be for this time of year.
Hope to finish up wood tomorrow.
We're right around 970' on north side of Little Mountain - Lake and Geauga County line
Awesome!...it's about time you begin to see the light Fred...and look at all the little smiley faces! Who would'a thunk.
Sap better start up soon...natives are getting restless.
That could work, but it's lots of wrapping and Q-Tips going to the trash, also not sure you wouldn't be just pushing chips further up into the hole.
A twig acts sort of like a brush or a pick and...
Although not currently allowed in the States, some Canadian producers will give the hole a shot of IPA and water, with a spray bottle, to flush anything out.
Or you can use a small twig and simply...
Appreciate it, but there is no upgrade for a clear press...<huge grin>
My H20 Innovations Even Flo Barometrically Controlled Proportional Auto Draw Off arrived this week...say that 10 times real fast!
Looking forward to not needing four arms (2 for firing and 2 for...
If the OP is going to be adding rafters, top and bottom plates, studs and then sheeting...may as well just build a new structure and be done with it.
I don't see how he can get any pitch at all...
Not too sure about that, this is the guy that can't see the benefits of a Clear Press...just might be suffering from lack of sunshine? <big grin>
No doubts from me...go for it, it's what yo do best!
I give you -1 year max- before you're back up to 1000.
As long as you're not using any of the carport tubes to support rafters or a ridge beam, you should be fine. Lots of those kits are "engineering marvels" designed with minimal materials to make them...
Scotch 33 is good tape. Just took down our Christmas lights, reindeer, trees etc. I use it to seal off extension cord connections - think Clark Griswald here - and it's nearly impossible to find...
Look out. You'll be back up to 1000 taps before you know it <grin>
It's that time of year and Kevin's post was enough to get a new NE Ohio Thread off the ground - Thank you Kevin - Good Bye to the worst year ever and Hello to 2021...Let 'er Rip

I wholeheartedly agree with Ken.
That car port is only designed for a 22 lb/sq ft snow load! Adding anything to the roof will just increase the dead load - on the walls - and decrease the...
Bought my first RO - a CDL Hobby 100 GPH - two seasons ago from Fred Ahrens at Richard's Maple. (you know Fred...he's a big fan of Leader's Clear Press..)
It works just fine for my 275-300 taps....
For sure nothing is as nimble, or as fast as the Tundra when there's snow in the woods, and the 4 stroke engine has grunt to spare when it's time to haul something out.
Had an older 2 stroke for a...
A pic of the Tundra pulling its weight...

I use both a 2006 "HPX Trail Gator" and a Skidoo Tundra for woods and syrup work.
I can go just about anywhere in the Gator, it's fine until the snow gets >20" in depth - then it can bottom out....
I tried it once, but kept tripping over the cord...

I've ordered from SyrupLabels.com for the past 10+ years, they do a great job, quality is excellant and they're easy to work and communicate with.
Mine are all on rolls of 500, which makes...
Thank you Dr. Tim.
Was pretty certain there was a reason.
Although I won't pretend to understand the science; your explanation is what I was looking for. (made a lot more sense that Fred's...
I did give the clear press and good spray-down with StarSan when I cleaned up last April - I think it's a great application for it as it's one of my most valued pieces of Maple equipment. <big grin>...
I know there must be a reason but I’m going to ask anyway.
Getting ready, I did a wash and rinse on my RO today and wondered if I could run a solution of StarSan through to keep the membrane...
