I just rinse mine with hot water, flipping it inside out. Seems like i remember someone on here boiling theirs, and they said it worked well too, but I haven't tried it yet.
Bascom's Open House is May 3rd and 4th.
Thank you tgormley358! I'm only re-bottling 48 ounces, so I'll bring it up to 190 on my gas stove top.
Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would ask my question here.
I have crystal clear bottled syrup from this season, using the murphy cup hydrometer, and run through the thick cone filter...
Agreed, very admirable +1
Great idea! I didn't know there was a tool specifically made for this process!
I have not tried it with 2 gallons Andy. Not because I didn't think it would work, but my operation is so small, I've never had 2 gallons to run through it. I have run over a gallon without any...
I have a similar stand as Andy VT. I filter my syrup hot, when my hydrometer tells me it's done. I put a couple pre filters in too. The only difference is, I reach down to the bottom of the filters...
+ 1 on Vistaprint. You can use your own pics you have stored to make your own labels. Once you get in there and get used to navigating all the shapes, sizes, fonts, colors, and everything else they...
Happened to see this post a little late. You can't go wrong with the RO Bucket. I had Carl build me a system I could add on to in the future. He's great to deal with and responds to your questions...
I use glass, so I need clear syrup. The orlon cone filter works great. As above, use one or two prefilters as well to start out. The only issue is, the orlon cone filter is huge and only the bottom...
Agreed. Glad I tapped at the end of January, or I would have nothing to boil. Had a lot of plans and ideas to try this year, but my trees are pretty much done. I'm sure people on vacuum did ok. I'm...
Partially open, maybe 1/2 - 1" works best for me to make the fire hotter.
This is my first year trying a few plastic taps. I had the same thing happen on a few, and they stopped weeping and dried up after a couple days. As said above, when one or two got stubborn I gave...
WOW! Very cool pics and history! Just wandering around in the same woods must be fun.
Everything Andy said! I only make around 5 gallons of syrup per season, and I do enjoy experimenting with tapping times on certain trees or certain areas of trees. For me it seems like I get my...
Go to this site. Most DC blowers are so inexpensive, it's worth the experiment; most under $10. If you don't find anything on that page, search a little throughout the site. They have a lot of neat...
Same here. Last year I was straining the raw sap in to my storage container just to keep the moths out. This entire season I had 3. One of those was this morning.
Thanks maple flats!!
Still learning here. My question is, if the first thing to freeze in your buckets is water, what about the opposite? Scenario: You have a deep freeze, and the entire bucket freezes solid. The next...
In regards to your original question of what to expect from your RO bucket ... The thing I wasn't prepared for, being a newbie to the whole RO thing, was the amount of permeate (water) and what to do...
WOW, That's impressive! 65 gallons of concentrate would be an all day, and in to the night process for me.
I'm not sure about that DK. I also have problems loading pics on this site, but my computer is old.
Here's how mine works. With all three hoses; suction hose, permeate hose, and concentrate hose all...
He said his system is putting out way more concentrate than water. The needle valve is on the concentrate hose. I was thinking maybe the needle valve isn't working. I have Carl's system, although not...
