I have a two handed tool with the tubing cutter I believe it may be from Leader ( reply to DOCSMAPLESYRUP)
Im with you what happened to PURE MAPLE syrup! Seems like in the future this country will be a bunch of pot heads
gathered 760 gal. wed from 360 taps sugar is at 2.25 making dark amber to almost "B" sugar sand unreal. looks like 10 more days of season
Whats the sugar content? Thanks
any chance you know the current price of bulk syrup?
I,m with you woodbutcher, this week looks good for maybe a run or two but long range temp trends indicates cold and snowy on its way. Hope that holds true. I did do a test tap, was running great...
Does anyone have or know of someone selling buckets, covers and taps (7/16 soule) I need 400 buckets and covers and 200 taps. Any help is appreciated, thanks
Sue I had the same problem until I went to the cv-1 adaptors with the stubby spout. You won't believe the difference and well worth the cost
At one time I had 2000 taps boiled on a 3x10. With seasoned wood usually boiled around 120 gal. per hour. Next year will have 500 buckets, I've found relatively speaking I gain just as much but...
Yea I hear ya. !200 gallons yesterday had to dump 600 which was from my tubing setting in that **** poly tank. Gravity tubing system just doesn't work in summer temps. Anyway the other 600 from...
go on Bascoms web site. He's selling used galvanized buckets for 10 bucks each. I've used galvanized buckets for years. had a lead test done and was at the lowest limit possible. My tubing sap...
Tapped 500 on tubing yesterday will be hanging 500 buckets today. Yea the snow was a pain but compared to last year this was nothing
Smells Like Syrup, wasn't referring to all the comments, just the one. Baby wipes, come on Think about it! And everyone wonders why the FDA is getting involved. Stupid is right on!!!!!
Tapped 200 monday have some repairs to make today from squirrel damage. repaired everything a month ago but they must be really hungry LOL. 300 more on tubing to go then hang 400 buckets and wait...
I find it so hard to believe and very frustrating to read, to have such a problem with such a simple process. I've used flat filters since I've been doing this with absolutely no problem whatsoever. ...
Some guys down around Windham have tapped along with one guy on Bundysburg and Old State Rd. ( he was boiling last night) Im waiting til Valentines weekend. gonna be pretty cold nxt. week
Blissville, I'm not sure what the issue is here, but if you doubt cv's work as advertised , then don't use them!
with the long range forecast for northern ohio starting mid week nxt. week looks like 10 days + of arctic cold. To me this seems like a normal season will be the rule this year
I pre heat my oven to 200 degrees then place bottles on flat pan for 30 to 45 minutes . Syrup is at 180 to 190 degrees when filling. Lay bottles on their side for say 15 minutes. I have never...
I'm thinking week of Feb. 7th
Heres my 2 cents on the cv taps, they are absolutely a necessity. I have 1000 taps with gravity and I wouldn't be without them. they make an unbelievable difference. don't out-think this
Washing is an option, but you should preheat them before filling. I heat mine to 200 degrees. If you use etched bottles it is absolutely necessary to wash them out with hot water.
I wash mine at the beginning of the season with a hot water pressure washer. no soaps or additives. Have never had a problem. I do question however the use of any kind of soap.
What about sap being drawn back into the tree as it begins to freeze up at the end of the day. CV'S were advertised as being useful on a gravity system as to not allow sap from the drop to...
Has anyone used the leader check valve with the 3/16 tubing?
