Our rule is 3 days max. It will help if ice is in the bucket but a couple 50* days will hurt it. IMO
Turn the screw out? Maybe get higher RPM?
I'm looking to put a 1" bulkhead into the cap of my IBC and run a short hose off that for pumping into the truck. This way we dont have to climb into the truck. I'm wondering about venting the tank...
I have a HF pump. 1". Its a Pacific Hydrostar. It works great. Full throttle is full throttle. You may want to see if there is an adjustment. It pumps a 275 gallon tote pretty quick.
m2salmon- I had the same issues/questions you have. I've improved over the years. I used to have my 290gallon tote/head tank outside and froze/busted many valves. I use a bucket RO type system as...
Just watched the video, two thumbs up!
Hey everyone, just south of most of you. We pulled some taps early this week and have about half to go. It slowed way down and the reds are popping. We did have 2 55 gallon barrels on their side...
I see this thread and can comment that I cannot find my albums to upload photos. I do not upload often so I might be looking right at it. I also tried to change my avitar and failed. Are there still...
Warm today, snow tomorrow and a good looking week coming up. We've only got 5 gallons of syrup so far, but we just topped our head tank with 180 gallons of sap so giddy up!
The difference between we are good and uh-oh. Last nights boil became panic when I thought the float box was set right but it was not. It looked good for the start up but then the temps started to...
I need to do mine before this weekends warm up. Noticed alot of sand and already boiled about 400 gallons of sap. We run a small homemade rig, the pan will get drained and then rinsed. Then we just...
I used vermiculite and ceramic blanket last year and it worked very well. If you build a wall to 2" or so below the pan you can fill behind it to the stack.
If you have 40 taps I would get the 65 gallon leg tank. I have 20 taps on a slope and on a good 2 day run it will fill a 55 gallon plastic barrel. Just my 2c.
Next week will be in the 40's. I'm waiting till at least Valentines day. Most likely the week after. We only make about 20 gallons.
I'm thinking I will take 1" off the head tank into the sap house. Reduce it after the RO feed valve to 1/2" to feed the pans. That way I'm not starving the pan feed with the RO.
Resurrecting this thread. I have similar questions for the feed from my head tank. Sorry no photos. 275 tote, 4' outlet height, I had a 1/2" feed last year and it didn't seem like it was enough when...
I have a Roberts valve and ball float feeding my sap pan but I was not comfortable with the flow rate. 1/2" copper. Thinking of going with the Leader bolt on regulating system and larger pipe but...
We end it when we see sap quality diminish, and when I get tired. Did a final boil last night of 120 gallons, walked out of the shack, the peepers were singing and the worms were scurrying.
My...
A little south of ya'll, the sap quality took a dive for me. We had a good run over the weekend and into Monday (3 gallons/tap) but the last 2 days have been so warm the sap is really clouding up. My...
Not a problem with your boiling schedule. I'd be more concerned with how long the sap sits before you start boiling. Your syrup may be slightly darker due to the long boil but still will get a sweet...
Yessir that's what we do! We bottled just over 3 gallons last night and used 5 pre-filters. It works well. May upgrade to a vacuum set up next year. Home built of course...
Yup, FROZE! Couldn't boil last night. Maybe tonight if I can thaw out my tank. Had 200 gallons Sunday but only had time to boil 90. The rest is frozen.
We use a coffee urn to bottle. I place a 5 gallon bucket with the bottom cut out on top and hang my filters in it. When I start my finish heating on the fryer my wife pours some hot water through the...
Thats my exact issue. I will see if I can get some larger pipe on it this year. Nothing scarier than drawing off without a feed in.
Thanks everyone for their input!
