I just built my new sugarhouse which is 24'x48' timber frame, the beams range from 10"x8", to 6"x6", all depends on what their purpose was and if they are weight bearing or supporting. I also have...

I like idea of the doors swinging out, what type of hinge did you use to make them pivot above center? The peak of my copula is 6' above the peak of the the roof which is at 23.5'...
What type of pulley or how do you guys open and close your copula's? My copula is 24' up so its not easy to get to and there will be four 2x4 windows that are designed to swing open like a...
"GPH" all depends on if you run an RO (reverse osmosis) and to what percentage you concentrate the sap to. On my set up I can handle about 8,000 taps concentrating to 12% on my 30x12 evaporator with...
I don't really agree with their RO set-up, concentrating to 25% and then transporting it; they don't say how far they are transporting it or how long it is kept as concentrate before being boiled,...
I would put a gauge at every ball valve for quick checking, my personal opinion at least. If you are only running three or four mainlines to a releaser with no T's off of the mainline or boosters...
This was my first year running an SP-22 with a gas motor at aprox 480 rpm and it pulled 28 at the releaser with a closed system and pulled 27.5" for most of the season with no leaks on 300 taps. The...
Had the same problems, not just with maple related stuff, also other farm equipment and products; this year I put a trail camera on my vacuum system that is off of a road away from the main farm, I'm...
I'm going to start tapping tomorrow to my most productive and early trees so if it does run Sunday I'll get the most out of it and hopefully finish the rest sunday and Wednesday... Looks like the...
I'm like right on the Mass border in the eastern corner so temps are staying pretty low, but today it got up to 36 here O.o I just don't want to miss any sap I can get… Hope to run another 400' of...
That's weathermen for you! Can be wrong everyday of their careers and still keep a job!
I'm in the same boat, I'll probably use this weekend to get my tanks and evaporator all clean and set up and...
Anybody have any hopes for this weekend? One day they are calling for 38 degrees but I think the trees need at least a day to thaw out before they will run at all so I might hold out to tap the...
^^^I agree with LowTech, 1/2" mainline can have poor flow and bad vacuum transfer and it is better to go with 3/4" for quality, but it all depends on budgeting and once again slope and taps per line…...
Are the trees close together or spread out and what type of slope do you have to work with? For 50 trees, I would run 3/4" mainline, unless they are spread out dramatically and you need to run two or...
^I believe it is One US quart
How do you clean this dirt out??? I'd imagine I don't want to use water as it will never dry out
On the other hand, how much oil should a SP-22 take? It does have the site glass but when I drained it today I got over half a gallon and there is black grease like stuff in the bottom???? Any info...
There should be a sight glass on the end of it, should be 3/4" up in the glass I believe, there should be a line to indicate… I can't remember if it is the SP11 or SP22 that takes a quart of oil.
Is a balance tank needed for the old Surge pumps if I have a moisture trap? What is the benefits to the balance tank if using it for sap? Thanks
I believe this SP-22 has the automatic moisture dump at the base of the balance tank (is it just a flap that covers a pipe that comes out of the base of the tank and seals when the vacuum is on?) Can...
So what pulley size should be on the motor is it is the stock 12" pulley on the pump? Thanks for the help guys
It should be a three inch pulley on the motor and 12 inch on the pump right? And what type of oil do you guys use in your pumps? I've heard that some use a thicker oiler to keep it cooler, and others...
Posting for a friend, what size gas motor is needed for a Surge SP-22? Some people have told him that you don't need a moisture trap if you have the balance tank, but do you guys still recommend a...
Hi, I am in the same boat, I am looking for advise on an oil reclaimer for a Delaval 76, any info or pictures would be great… Mine has the cup oil system currently and would like to get as high as...
