This sap run has been relentless. I did 928 gallons this week. All of last year I did 1,400 gallons. And it's still running!!!!
Great!, I had lots the last 2 years.
Finally got all my taps in. Running today and looks like tomorrow and Friday. Next week might be a flood.
So sorry for your loss. As has been said many times, no parent should bury a child. It has to be very tough without your son. Making syrup will renew many old memories and I'm sure lots of them will...
Murphy cup makes the job simple. Worth every penny!
I have the insulation board with 1/2s and find it works great.
I also find no problem with my wet cone filters. I finish my syrup on the stove [219 degrees] and then immediately pour the syrup thru my cone filters. I think the people that have problems are...
Prayers for a quick and speedy recovery Gary. Take it easy for a while and sort things out. I, for one have certainty missed your almost daily posts for the last 2 years or so. I was wondering where...
Gary, I would draw off much slower. Just a small stream instead of opening it right up. When you open it fast, your float floods the pan with raw sap and it ruins your gradient. It's like starting...

Glad to hear everything is going well. You have worked very hard for well over a year to get to this point, now ENJOY, ENJOY. Relax and get comfortable running your rig.
I know the smiles on their faces made you feel fantastic!
Anyone else having big time niter problems this year? I can't run much more than 100 gallons of sap this year, without having to shut down and soak my pan overnight in vinegar. It's a real pain in...
Gary, one thing you are going to learn is the weather is never going to be exactly what they predict. When I see a perfect week of sap weather coming up, I am "certain" that it will NOT be just what...
Tried the blue spouts one year. Only one year, all leaked. Garbage!
I agree with the high temp blanket insulation.
It sounds to me like your pan needs cleaning. I have that same problem at times, and it is always a buildup of niter on the pan. It starts right at the draw off port. Clean it with vinegar and you...
I see everyone complaining about the weather but at my place it is great. I bottled up 13+ gallons today and that is over 1/2 of the crop I did all last season. This week the weather looks excellent,...
All tapped and boiling here. Wow! Never seen them run like the last few days. My earliest start and making lots of syrup. Sugar is low, only 1.2 but it is really early. My RB20 has saved the day....
I have a pump in my concentrate tank that pumps sap to a line over and into my preheater. I have a push button switch hooked up so it only pumps when I hold the button down. Tried an on off switch...
I switched my RV over to 2 6 volt batteries years ago and was amazed at how much longer they lasted. No comparison!
Gary, that sure is an impressive setup you have there. You are going to really enjoy making some great syrup on that rig! It has been enjoyable riding along with you on your adventure. We all get...
I also vote for a test boil with water, and run it for a couple of hours. You have a lot to learn and the test boil will teach you a lot. And make sure you have an "Oh ****" bucket filled and ready....
Pan looks like it was worth the wait. Can't wait to see steam rising from it!
