I can stop the flow of concentrate but when I do that the permeate is also reduced. For some reason I seem to get the best volume flow of the permeate when I run a 25/75 split. If I go higher than...
Sorry guys! I got locked out of my account and got busy with COVID issues.

There is an image of my set up. The system seems to be working better now but still not what I was hoping it...
I finally made the plunge and purchased the supplies to make an RO which I was able to try out today. I’m running 2 400gpd membranes in parallel with an aquatec 8800 pump. I’m able to run around...
I’m making a 2x400gpd ro system using an aquatech 8800 pump. The pump and feed ports in the filters are sized for 3/8 while the discharge ports are all sized 1/4 inch. Should I reduce everything...
Where did you guys find an on off pressure switch that works when you run out of sap? I saw one that shuts off when your bucket gets full but I’m not sure it works when the feed bucket gets empty.
Our sap has been lower than usual for sugar content at 1.8% this year and my first batch made some pretty dark stuff. The taste is excellent though!
We got our 170 taps wrapped up today. The snow level has dropped by atleast a foot which made it so much more enjoyable than postholing through the woods. Half of the trees have started flowing...
I’m going to tap this weekend, can’t wait to break out the snow shoes.
Same in Cromwell. My yard trees did well but the forest trees are still locked up and the ground is still very frozen.
It looks like I have another week of cold temps before the sap starts flowing again. I doubled my taps this year and was hoping for 500gal sap but so far i’m only up to 100g. No issue keeping up so...
Thats a good possible explination that I will test. Thanks!
I found a bunch of struggling bumble bees that I rescued and was promptly rewarded with a sting.
I bought a refractometer off amazon last year to help me judge when the syrup is done. One issue I have so far is that the blue/white line seems to climb the longer you leave it up to your eye. I'm...
Thanks for the tips everyone. Last year I had some interested family members come with to install the taps and one of them pounded in the taps WAY too hard in the forest trees so based on your...
Last year was my first year making syrup and I really enjoyed it but only made 6.5 gallons off of 45 ish taps. Our taps were split between 12 yard trees that were very good producers and 33 forest...
Do you think the pump will be able to keep appropriate pressure with a larger line diameter?
Also, I have heard that you typically get 1/6th production from the rated gpd so a 400gpd membranes would produce 66gpd. What is that 66? Is it making 66gph of permeate?
I'm planning to build a small RO system this fall and was thinking of using 400gpd membranes instead of 150 like all the YouTube videos seem to use unless there is a reason they use the smaller ones...
Our forest trees have just started to run now and the yard trees that have been producing for a month are starting to get cloudy. We have processed 100g from our 40 taps and are up to 3.2gal with...
I put the last of my taps in this weekend and the forest has just started to drip now. I had 40gal from my yard trees to process and got 1.25 gallons of syrup but it was really dark which is...
I put 10 taps in to try and catch this past weekend warmup and got about 20 gallons but it looks as though they will stop for a week now.
During my test run yesterday I found out that the thermometer I bought is a piece of junk so I'm wondering what you guys use to gauge the final 7 degrees. I wanted to get one that had an alarm at...
I did my first boil yesterday and when I pulled my steam pans off they were covered in black soot as was the insulation in the arch. Is that normal? I am running a 2x5 with 6 steam pans and burning...
We are close to Cromwell.
