2022 is finished for us, pulled all our taps yesterday. Still need to finish off the last of the sweet, expecting to end up with approx 38-39 gallons made. It was a good season.
We opted for the 14 Hp with one bed extension. Thus far we haven't thrown any blades, but we also don't run any lube. We're cutting tulip poplar and sugar maple, ( I know, but when they blow over...
We have a Woodland Mills HM126 that we got last Fall. Didn't get much time to use it last year, but we did manage to cut the lumber needed to build a shed for it... got it stacked, stickered, and...
When I built mine I used a step down transformer to get the 24 vac needed for operation. I installed the transformer in the enclosure for a nice, clean looking setup.... it didn't fly, as my readings...
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I opened up the latest failed valve today, it was identical to the earlier failure. I have contacted the manufacturer, and will report back when/if I get a...
I'm building an auto draw off system and I'm struggling with the motorized ball valve. I've had two, and both have stuck closed, the first one to the point of letting the smoke out when it tried to...
Good luck!!
We tapped a couple weeks ago, had our first boil on the 14th, and have boiled twice since then. Have made almost 11 gallons of syrup thus far. Sugar content of our sap is running consistently normal...
Good luck Phil!!

I wish I could find a freshly emptied 5 gallon bourbon barrel. I've tried all the sources recommended to me but no one has any in stock.
We run two, 4008 shurflo setups, one has 63 taps and the other 65. We've had one pump for two years, and installed the other in time for the 2021 season. On our older system we ran three, 3/16" lines...
Wrapped up our season today with 33 gallons of syrup. Processed almost 2300 gallons of sap to get there, with our last few days topping out at 1% sugar. The weather was not ideal, as the late cold...
We already had a Smoky Lake divided flat pan, so we stayed with that for now. If things go well and we continue to expand, maybe we will purchase a flue pan in a few years.
We tapped this past weekend, letting sap run on the ground to flush everything right now. Believe our count to be around 120-130 trees. Added more trees and built 2 homegrown automated(?) vacuum...
Is the output on the pid 120 volts, and if so, is your ball valve 120 volts also? Just want to make sure of what you're working with before offering advice.
Update... I used a sight level to get a more accurate elevation figure. Looks like 24' of vertical rise. So, I hooked a 5/8" x 50' garden hose to the output side, and ran it up to the second story...
Thanks for the input guys. My plan was to build a solar setup, complete with power supply, temp sensor, and solenoid valves that will shut down the pump and drain both the suction and pressure lines...
I've been reading everything I can find regarding the shurflo pumps, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. If I have 300' of 3/4" mainline fed by 60 trees on 3/16 laterals, and I need...
We're hoping to catch one more run this weekend, and then we're done.
I want to distill the sap. Run it through the RO until the sugar content is just high enough, cook it a little on the evaporator, and add the yeast. Distill it, put it in a 1 gallon charred wooden...
So I think that means no, maple flats has not experienced the issue at hand.😊
However, our small bottling reducer leaks also. Not a stream, and not constantly, but enough to make a bit of a mess....
Oh yeah, I know Will, We talk syrup quite a bit. He's making some very nice improvements/upgrades this season.
I work for IU, based out of the physical plant. I drive by the farmstead several times a day, I noticed some bags hanging in the past few days. Looks like you lost a couple trees, there by the street.
Wouldn't happen to be on 10th street, would it?
