What I'm looking for is what others have done. But it is becoming apparent that this doesn't seem to be something many people take into consideration.
What do others take into consideration?...
I think the majority of people are missing my point. And / or don't understand the question.
There are many different divisions of costs from an accounting stand point. Take a look at a ballance...

Ha, I get it. I was more so refering to time / wood / electricity.
Other items such as bottles, glass would be cost of goods. Tubing, taps, pumps tanks, and equipment would all be capital items,...
I am curious if anyone has determined how much it costs them to produce a gallon of syrup and if so the style of formula you used. previously I have just ball parked my cost of production but would...
Don't waste your time and money on roxul, tried it, not worth it. It didn't do nearly enough insulating and just fell apart.
You're probably going to have to head back to the supply shop... or...
Just my two cents, I hit mine with a pressure washer after soaking the spot with vinegar. My burnt spots at the back of my pan come right off with the pressure washer.

I've done this experiment a few times last season, I've melted down the ice and had sugar content as high as .75%, usually in the area of .5%. IMO that's a loss if I pitch it. But I was also hurting...
I've got Dave Bisbee's smart sap sucker that has a bypass valve, so sap will pass through a bypass when the pump is off for any number of reasons.
You might get a little off your T but it will all...
A recirculation line will help quite a bit. I just did it with mine and I get a consistsnt 23-25" of vacuum. I used a 1/4 turn ball valve and gated it until I had sap moving in all my lines and max...
The biggest things I always noticed when boiling in cold wind was how drastically it effected my boil rate. Some cold windy days I couldn't even get above 10gph. I also had my feed line from my head...
I not certain at what percent you'll start getting sugar crystals. But if I had to take a shot in the dark I would say 70% would be too high and you probably would get them.

I aim to keep my syrup as close to 66% as possible. For a couple different reasons. For one the state of Maine says my syrup has to be at least 66% as a licensed producer. Two I feel that if I bottle...

Defoamer will drawn sugar towards where you put it. So if you are, it should never be put in the middle flues of the pans.
You could use a 2-3 drops of defoamer ever 6-8 minutes to help move your...
Are you using defoamer? If so where and how much are you adding and how often?

1000 feet of one inch line is going to hold a ton of sap. My 250 foot run holds 10 gallons. I use a clear water pump I got from harbor freight but I put a T and a quarter turn valve on the uphill...
No, but I'd like to know as well

You're going to have more sap in your pan with other not level. I welded nuts to the feet of my evaporator and made adjustable feet using threaded rod and some plate steel.

It can eat away at the welds over time. And I imagine it's difficult to completely neutralize the acid in all the nooks.

Just curious, Did you end up using this pump?

Trailguy,
I didn't make it to that class, I sat in the 3/16 instead. What tips did you pick up? Figured if I couldn't get the sap increasing efficiency was irrelevant.
