Seemed very short - I agree. For the most part the sap never ran clear and once it warmed up the insects have become terrible! 100% of our taps are bone dry.

    Done

40+ taps went dry this week. Burned the last of my supply last night.

Not worth the struggle at this point. Anyone else packing it in?

Taps Pulled - We are done!

It was a good year -

Pulled our taps yesterday, SAP in buckets was turning yellow - and the syrup being produced was almost black! (but very tasty)

    Roadside Trees?

I've seen many references to 'roadside' trees.

Whats the difference between a tree in the wood, middle of a field and in the woods.

    Inconsistant Run

Strange year - my larger (huge) trees are providing the majority of the sap. Little trees next to nothing with some of them dry!

We've made about 5-6 gallons of syrup and have pretty much decided...

    How raging are your fires?

Instead of using seasoned hardwood for my fires, last night I used old dead Spruce & Larch of very small diameter, like nothing over 2".

The fire absolutely raged and my boil/evap increased...

Are we saying 'Suger' does not freeze?

So if there is a block of ice in a bucket along with a liqued, is everyone saying that the ice is water only and the liqued is at least concentrate?

If I'm understanding this correctly this is...

Is it the cloudy slightly grainy stuff in the syrup I make?

    35 Taps in on 2/25

All on buckets. Very very little sap seems to be running.

Question: We are noticing leaking around the base of some of the taps, between the bark and the Grimm tap. I was/am hoping that the...
