The hole would go in the cup that holds the tap for the off season, so it wouldn't create a future leak as it doesn't connect to the lateral. I wish it was easier to post pics on here. I may try...

So I've been reading and thinking on this subject for awhile. I'd like a simple way to flush and sanitize my 3/16 lines from the bottom end of my mainline with a pump and calcium hypochlorite. If I...
This is what I'm trying to do, I'm not looking for grates I'm looking at forced air from above and below the fire.Combustion Efficiency for Maple Producers - University of Vermont

I have 5/16 plate where the grates would be, and I'm going to pour refractory cement over that.
Thanks for the responses. Doc it would be great to stop in and check out your setup, just name the time and of course address. I work til 315 mon-fri. Anytime after though I'm available.
I'm going to be pouring 3 inches of refractory cement on top of that with tapered holes from 3/8 on top to 3/4 on bottom.
I am almost done with my 3x8 arch, but have some questions regarding the air under. I have been building it as per the instructions the university of Vermont suggested, but now it says I need to...
Chad, I'm pretty sure I've got it figured out, but it would be great to check out your setup and meet a fellow trader member. Not many of us in our area.
I'm building a new arch, and I'm wondering what constitutes (high pressure). What am I going to need for a 3x8?
So I had gauges on the end of all my 3/16 lines, but they have been more of a pain than helpful. They are always leaking it seems sap gets into them and then they freeze and start leaking. I'm just...
2013 was very similar to this year didn't run til the 12th temps constantly were 28-37 for highs then 0n the 27th sixties and it was over. I see 64 then 70 forecasted for the 27th and 28th. I hope we...
It doesn't look good. If the forecast doesn't change, I might not even get enough for even 1 boil this year. I thought last year was bad.
Wishlist, what kind of tubing were you running that was popping off fittings? I have been having terrible luck with that as well. The tubing is coming off my ts constantly. I've got lapierre tubing...
This is my second year with the mainline. Third year with the lateral and drops. I haven't used any cleaning methods previously, but will be in the future.
Thanks for the replies. It's not as bad as it was the first run. I just didn't want to waste time and firewood to make bad tasting syrup. I'll keep the next run and try it. Tcross he's a lab who...
Old sap smell
So it's been a slow start to the season and I've only probably ran 250 gallons of sap through my mainline (300 taps)to clean it out before collecting it. The problem is that I smell an off smell in...
Not a good year. Missed the early warm up, and only made 24 gallons on 285 taps on 3/16 gravity. Made 78 gals. Last year, would've went over 100 if my buddy didn't melt down my pans.
Not doing well here either 325 gallons so far, and forecast doesn't look good.
I thought you were saying the float and the connection to the front pan were on same side of evaporator. I get what you're saying and that is how I'm running mine. Hope to have it done tomorrow.
Hey john, curious about how that looks have any pics or diagram?
Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Thanks for the reply. I'd like to use my float and valve from my old pans, and I wouldn't be able to plumb them up to the front of flue pan as there is no threads on float. I'm just wondering if...
So I have my new pans welded up, but the welder put my float box in wrong side. My building has dirt floor and I poured slab for evaporator off to one side, so now float box would be on short side of...
Started to run a little yesterday, still have a 100 or so taps to run and some minor adjustments toy new main line. Waiting on the welder to finish up on my new pan as well.
