Switched to one piece poly-carbonate 4 years a go and it was a good decision. Never have any push-offs now due to hard freezes. With two piece it's almost certain you'll have some problems.

One and a half inches for the past 25 years.

Depends on the cfm of your pump and what size transfer line you have for your vacuum. I have 1 pump, ( 5cfm) operating two releasers and the the vacuum line from the pump ( 800 feet away) to the...

Mark, I have the same in my woods.
[QUOTE=Russell Lampron;333912]That looks like porcupine damage to me.[/QUOTE
Could be. I didn't know they could climb a small tree up to a height of 5 - 8 feet.
I wondered if a pileated woodpecker made these marks in a rock maple trying to get some sap to get a drink. In one of the pictures there are light cross marks in the wood like a beak scraping the...
My first draw last night was at 218.8 and two hydrometers read the same. The last hour of boiling syrup it was coming off at 221.4 and again I checked the density with two hydrometers. I've never...
If your interested, call Clayton at MES. He added another post to a Lapierre 600 just before the season started. Easy person to talk to. 603-359-8963
Same thing here last night. When I left the woods last night the temp said 36. Checked the recording thermometer this morning and is said 30 for a low. I checked the tanks later and one was running...
That is still a good return for your number of taps. You're doing something right.
Oh....ok.....I was thinking DD and that explains th heartburn. I don't think I could sleep on a 'donut nightcap'!!....lol
2,400.....the trees here haven't woke'n up that much yet.
Blissvile, you must have more taps than the 1,500 taps that your profile shows if your making between 700 - 1,000 gals of syrup a season. Maybe your taps yield 1/2 gal a year though.
Those donuts give me heartburn. They're not like the ones I get at Deerfield Fair.
I bought one last year Russ and I agree that they are very easy to use and inexpensive to buy. They give you very quick readings on the color grade compared to some other meters.
I can remember going to a boiling seminar that was held at one of the well known maple equipment suppliers and he told the audience that "you become a real sugar maker when you can run your pans at a...
Ok, we'll watch the forums and for the research papers that will have the numbers that will show the economics of a system that uses this setup.
It would be interesting to have someone work out the economy of the hyper brix setup, (cost of machine $80,000, plus the evaporator change cost to handle the high brix $20,000 plus for a new...
March of 2001..........33 inches of heavy, wet, wind driven snow that left 8 " of snow packed on the northeast side of each tree and I hadn't tapped yet. Lots of small trees bent over from the wet...
Sorry, couldn't help but chuckle a little on the "not impressed". It only helps to have that much snow in Alaska. Sustained winds here of 50 mph for awhile and gusts to 75. We had to be on the watch...
You have the best solution going. What could be easier and as sanitary.
I never thought about black attracting more bacteria but it makes sense.
I switched to the poly ones two years ago and for me it was a good move. I agree with Dr. Tim, they seam to seat better as I never see any weeping tap holes.

Did you check the starting capacitor in the black box atop the motor? I had to replace the capacitor in my Turbo 600 2 years a go when the pump quit. It's an easy fix.
I've used one of the needle valve types for 10 years now and they work very well for the most part. I set the valve so that it drips about every 20 seconds, give or take. Atmos thined with a small...
