I have the 2'x4' XL model as well. Awesome little unit. With the blower on, I'm getting 25GPH out of it. For the money...you can't go wrong with a mason evaporator

I would be a bit shy about using coconut oil. I'd be afraid of it leaving a bit of flavor in my syrup.
I'd go straight up through the roof if at all possible. The less bends (90 degree elbows ) the better for draft. The better the draft, the hotter the fire, the hotter the fire, the more GPH evaporated
All I can say is take the time to do the math and the research before you buy. I was in the same situation a couple years ago. I eventually went with a W.F.Mason 2x4. For the $$$ and the quality of...
3% + sugars are not unheard of. I have 2 trees that consistantly run 3.7 to 4.0% sugar. (tested with sap hydrometer) I'd LOVE to have a couple hundred trees just like them.
Just my 2 cents worth...... I have a sthil 044. It's about 12 or 13 yrs old and still running strong. Have cut around 250 cords with it since i got it. Starts easy and has plenty of power to cut down...
Have used a turkey fryer the past couple years. See pic to see the set-up. worked quite well.......boiled about 3gal / hr on it and never lost boil. Sap was trickling in slowly. Have to keep an eye...
Howdy neighbor....... :) I'm next door in Ryegate. Have a 2x4 set-up here as well. There's tons of good information on this site, sodon't be afraid to go surfin thru it all. Good luck this year.
I've smoked some salmon using maple wood and maple syrup. it came out AWESOME!!! Everyone loved it
Warm wishes to all for a very MERRY CHRISTMAS. We'll all be tappin them trees before we know it.
Having used 2 different homemade barrel evaps and a DOMINION GRIMM 18" x 60" SPORTSMAN model, I would recommend putting a damper into the stack. While I don't close off the damper completely, I do...
For the roof vent, I just went and bought a couple sheets of aspenite and 3 or 4 2x4's and proceeded to cut a hole in the existing roof and pieced it in. As for steam build-up inside, I rarely have a...
I used a kit to build my sugarshack. Built a 8'x12' one. Was designed to be used as a storage shed, but with some minor adaptations, (for roof vent) it makes a great sugarshack for my MASON 2x4....
the book "BACKYARD SUGARING" has a god one that I use. I just photocopied it and then laminated it, and keep it in the sugarhouse.
Got yourself a decent unit there. Got mine in August, and have it set up ready to go. Was totally amazed with the results of the test boil. (evaporated 25 gallons in 67 minutes) Mine is also a 2x4XL,...
Not quite...LOL Got my new Mason 2x4 raised flue unit all set up. Did a test boil on it today, and am VERY pleased with the results. Evaporated 25 gallons of water in 67 minutes. In the words of Phil...
Took the ride over to Bill Mason's in Maine today to get my new 2x4 evaporator. Thing sure does look awesome. Thanks Bill. Now I need to get to work and get it set up. Anyone wanna come help? ...
Went to my sugarhouse to get ready to install new arch, and found a couple wasp nests. Wondering if anyone knows of some way to eradicate them without using commercial hornet killer. I'm concerned...
Still waiting on my new arch to be built here. Have managed to get the woodpile up between the raindrops...well maybe not between them, as I have gotted soaked a few times. LOL. Anyways....Has anyone...
You failed to mention what style pans you are considering here. If you are going with a flat pan style, your looking at around 12 GPH. High output arch will gain you another 2 or 3 GPH. If your...
I think you'll fall a bit short of the 20GPH mark. My guess is you should get around 15 GPH
Best of Luck to you Don. My prayers are with you.
While it is a rare event...I personally have seen a 12 quart bucket be running over in a 24 hour period. I'm just saying on a really good day with perfect conditions, that 100 taps could concievably...
Team40...you need to do some math......on an average day you'll get 200 gallons of sap on 100 taps. on a REALLY good day that could increase to 300 gallons. A 2x4 with flat pans and NO blower will...
Glad your finally getting some boil time in. You'll be in heaven when you get that first draw-off. Hope your arch doors aren't to badly warped.
