Hi Keitha333
It's been a strange year, they flow when I wouldn't expect it. I've had them flowing on Tuesday when the temp was only 33.
For the most part around 36ish is when I see them...
Don't know why but these last few days have been the best my trees have ever dripped out. I have my 100 gallons in 3 days......done collecting. Boiling on Saturday.
The sap is flowing really well now. Got nearly 40 gallons over the last couple of days and as of noon all trees are dripping with most of them turned on full bore! Kinda surprising really didn't...
I put in 4 taps to test and all 4 are starting to drip. Slowly but they are dripping.
The weather forecast here in Chaska looks promising for only 4 days, then the bottom drops out for a least 2 weeks. As much as I'm itching to get out there, I'm not going to take the bait be waiting...
Went out on vacation last week and my neighbor collected 150 gallons for me on Thursday/Friday. Got back yesterday and most trees are a facet. Got another 60 yesterday and 30 so far this morning. ...
Yep been pretty light here too only 12 of my 30 taps ran today. Barely 5 gallons.
I wondering if anyone has knowledge if last years drought has any impact on the flow. It was very dry in Chaska last year. Also, does it hurt the trees to tap after the drought?
Did anyone have any luck today? I only had one tree put out about a gallon, besides that just dribbles on about half the trees.
Been a long wait, but all 30 taps are in place, burner is ready and excited to get this rolling. It’s 33 degrees with an expected high in the mid 40s/50s most of the week. Let’s the dripping...
I dont know when the forecast changed but Sunday 3/13 onward looks absolutely perfect.
I tested a few trees today and they are flowing, but I’m sure it’s short lived.
Forecast isn't looking so great, perhaps the week of March 7th in the cities
I passed 300 gallons on Tuesday. Caught up boiling last night which got me just shy of 7 gallons. I see several trees have turned back on this morning (the bonus of working from home, living in...
I collect mine in 5 gallon buckets and boil it within 72 hours. Doing a smaller mid week boil helps break the marathon weekend up a bit.
I wondered this myself although I've never let it set more than a few days. My gut has always told me a week is too long, but my gut has failed me many times before.
Appreciate the information.
Sounds Delicious paired with spicy fish tacos
This is year two for me, last year was propane, this year I modified (essentially gutted) a cast iron stove and have a 2x2 pan on top. The firebox is sealed fairly well with a blower. I made my...
I've been using mason jars that have the dimple in the center of the lid. If depressed the seal is complete and should last for years. I've been told to always put on a new top and never reuse...
Nice way to kick off the season. I'm going to have to seal my leaks a little better....doubled boiling rate is great incentive. What did you use to better seal the door?
Hey Dr. Tim
I was unaware the snow pack around the trunk. Appreciate the insight.
Wishing you luck. Down in the cities it started this morning at 9:00.
I had some production yesterday but this morning they all woke up at 9ish.
The Saturday run was a fairly good, my 70 taps pulled in just shy of 45 gallons. Most were dripping, some had about a gallon, others trickled. Of course there are several waiting for warmer days...
Update in Chaska. I had about 1/2 my taps dripping on Monday and Tuesday then stopped until late yesterday. Didn't get too much. Today however is a good day, almost all are dripping in some manner...
