Are they tapped straight down or do you make a loop?
If all your spouts are on its a good way to find leaks.
I disagree with 6in up or down,if you have ever seen sawed tap wood you want to go at least12 or more inches.
I use the LOAC two handed tool I start one side by hand as Maple Flats said and I leave as little as possible sticking out of the clamp, works for me.
Thanks for the reply.I didn't like the tapping bit I used last year, just ordered a lapierre & a bolduc bit. Good luck with your season.
What is the best brand tapping bit, what is your preference.
Thanks,thats what I figured.
Do you plug the spout into the old T or just let it hang? Just wondering about contamination.

I would plant them 20-30 ft apart and plant a different kind in between. It would save transplanting them again and be helpful in case of some kind of disease.
Dave, you said you tasted it in April how do you keep it from fermenting if the barrel is not sealed?

I have a double Bernard mechanical releaser that switches sides every 2 seconds continuously non stop without sap flow. Anybody seen this before?
I run my vacuum for 2 days after the taps are pulled to remove any moisture that is left. Seems to work well.
Looks good Pauly,I always liked the lighter syrup. good luck with your season, say hi to Dave.
Also good on scrambled eggs.
White vinegar is supposed to work better.
I have leader 1-1/2" blue and black 1" both punctured top and bottom. Had to be a bear or coyote.
CDL makes a t that you can use a 5/16 drop on.
The best thing to do would be to ask whoever your organic certifier is so you get it right the first time.
Hi Pauly Are your pans connected on both sides? If they are you have to leave the side you draw off on plugged. Any pictures?
I have used mine on 3/16 tubing and it works great.
