83 taps on 5/16 tube in on 2/25, little over 500 gal of sap for week in Luther, MI
I did 6 gallons in them last year. No Problems, I did wax seal the tops after filling just to be sure no air leaked in.17770
I would just get a pump to keep the sap moving. Adding heat to sap is not a good thing in my opinion if you are trying to save it for any length of time.
1efddd,
Look for the model number on your procon pump. The numbers to the right of the first letter will be pump GPH, the last numbers are pressure

They are like a big coffee filter, but are out of similar material as pre filters.

I use greese/oil filters for draw from evaporator. Cheap and do the job.15165

All 83 in Saturday, sap was dripping before the taps could get placed. Looks like an early year in Luther.
Look on Amazon and FreshWaterSystems, you will be able to get just about everything you would need.
I have a Hobart 140 mig and it will do 18g stainless without blowing though to many times. It worked fine on the angle and plate for the evaporator.
You could use an stc-1000. Wire so one side goes off and the other goes on. Turn off pump at 31.5 turn on light bulb in housing to keep pump above freezing. Just make sure to keep thermostat outside
All in this weekend, looks good for midweek. It will take a few of these nice days to thaw them out.
Got the rest of the bush tapped this weekend. Nothing running. Still cold and snow in the bush, looks like this week should get things started.

Check ebay for a thomas 2650 pump. I use one, they work great for small bush.
8 gal this year compared to 30 last year. 10 less taps. Only had one good weeks run.
That was great news to me. I'm 2 hours from bush. Got here and had around 200 gals of slightly cloudy sap. Still tastes and smells ok so boiling it seperate. Got the barrels emptied and hooked vac to...
Got to the sugarbush this weekend to find this, trees falling everywhere taking down the gravity lines. What a mess. Not safe to be out there this week. Trees snappng like tooth picks everwhere....
Yes 8 No 3
I did a thru tube pan. 2" Copper that the fire and hot gas pass thru. Alot less oldering. Only issue is you need front pan set higher that top of tubes in back pan....
I am holding out until later in Feb.
