I'm interested in what you mean by filter cartridge style? Don''t remember seeing or hearing about such a thing.
I think what you're talking about is a Sirofilter from Lapierre. We've had one for 15 years & think it's great. We generally finish 8-9 imp gallons at a time, mix DE in & run it through. Take it...
Weather was crappy yesterday, just above freezing, snow rain mixed. The sap just poured out of the trees! Best run we've had since last Thursday. We've bottled twice now, got around 15 imp gallons so...
Lines are flushed out fairly good. Started saving sap yesterday afternoon, hopefully will have enough to fill & fire up evaporator today. Weather doesn't sound great for next couple of days, but...
Hopefully we will finish tapping today, if it doesn't rain too hard. Don''t remember another year like this, walking around with just boots & stubbing our toes on fallen branches that would normally...
I used copper lines from reclaimer to the bearings as well, but made them with coils(loops). I think there about 5 or 6 loops, thought it allowed more time for the fan to cool. It still smoked bad,...
Made our first sugar yesterday! Used old syrup, couldn’t get the glucose meter to read the invert level was so high. Boiled to 50 degrees over boiling point of water, let it cool for short time &...
I was told recently that they use a Hobart for sugar & cream. What's the thoughts on that?
We're done! Ended up with 122.5 imp gallons (557 liters). It was a weird year, never had good runs, weather was really warm & sunny enough. Now it's very warm! All good though, we're ok & had some fun.
Looking for opinions on which style cream machine is best & why? Paddle, gear pump or other? Fastest, ease of clean up? Best consistency?
Thanks,
Murray
Been slow going, but we're getting some. Bottled 8 or 9 times, up to 60 gals or so(270 liters)
That is very cool, they sure worked hard!
We've had pretty runs, Sunday & Monday being the best, just so so since. Been alright though, we've bottled 3 times this week, up to 21 imp gallons (95 litres). Next week looks ok, high temps don't...
Been waiting for someone else start the season thread but......
We finished tapping Friday, got tanks cleaned & up line pump in place. Lines are getting pretty well flushed out, hopefully start...
I think it's roughly 3 to 4 feet
When we got over 100 taps on the star ladder line it wasn't working good enough for me. Someone on here was talking about vertical pipes. We switched to that one year, worked better, then "Tim" came...
That is cool! I'm not that far from them, but haven't been to this one yet. The automation is very impressive, they design a lot of their own.
That was great!
Finished up what was left in evaporator yesterday on the propane stove. My brother put it on stove in the middle of the afternoon & we didn't start bottling until almost 8:00. We're done for another...
Saps been flowing great! It's probably coming to after today though, no freezing overnight in sight & double digit temps in day. No complaints, we've had a good year, & it's time to be done, possibly...
We're up to almost 100 imp gals, been a decent year so far. Yesterday sap ran surprisingly well, I've learned that nature messes with you. You can't predict what is going to happen all the time.
Ran ok, not great on weekend. Not much Monday & nothing yesterday. Supposed to warm up, but snow/rain mix today & tomorrow.. Hard to say when the weather will straighten out. We've bottled about 30...
We're tapped & all the line repairs done. Now to get tanks cleaned & shack set up & straightened around. Hopefully we don't get as bad a mess as they are calling for. Would almost rather have snow,...
We're officially starting today. Have been frigging here & there, but will start repairing & tapping today. The next week looks promising, hopefully we've turned the corner from the cold!
