Somewhere I remember hearing or reading that whatever your RO size is you should run that amount of permeate through it for a rinse after a wash …
If it's a 150/hr. … run 150 gallons...
Might just as well start now as wait
It feels good to be getting ready to sugar after not sugaring last spring ..
We are adding a few taps this year want to get to 300 ..

Looking at February 14ish no earlier
Any sap you get between now and then is more of a nuisance sap can't get enough to RO it and don't like boiling raw sap

Last spring ( 2019) we was not able to sugar as I had a medical issue …
My grandson came and pickup 10 buckets, covers and taps in mid March ….
Said he was going to tap a few trees around his yard...

I would definitely wash and rinse the membranes before using . if nothing more for piece of mind

We have a Daryl Sheets 5" press and love the thing .
Best investment we have made other than the RO
If needed I would buy another one .
We can get 8.5 gallons through with a set of...

Just remember, you have to do what you need to do and can afford (that's the biggy)
We have used cone filters with paper pre-filters
We have used flat filters...
We use the blue containers the same as you do.
As someone said earlier .. they will hold almost 6 gallons
Fill them right to the bottom of the cap and when you put the cap on the syrup will come...
Nope picks it right back up
The DE is the filter .
Last year I thought less was better . nope more
Thanks to Tim Perkins Maple Flats and a few others they got us squared away .

I have a Daryl Sheets press also ..
So this is what we do ..
We draw off in a 3/4 gallon pot ..
The first pot gets 3/4 cup of DE ..
Recirc until the syrup is clear then...
I agree ... very nice little press .....
We also get 8 gallons through it ......
LOL .... now that I have been educated on how much DE to use .... LOL
Got ours last year ...
Got through the learning curve last couple of weeks ago ....
