Thanks everyone. Love the different perspectives. Previously, I had the luxury to have my head tank in a separate, cooler room. This sugar house is going to be smaller and just one indoor space. ...
I’m in the planning process of building a small sugar house (10’x16’) for my 2x3XL Mason evaporator. I’m wondering if folks like their head tank inside or outside? I’ve seen it both ways and see...
Thanks for all the great insight. I'm think I'm going to go with the XL for sure.
That’s super helpful, thanks. Any additional hints or thoughts is always appreciated.
Yes, I was thinking about purchasing the blower.
Eustis22: I know its somewhat of a loaded question but what's your thought on the number of taps the 2x3 XL can handle, considering no RO and...
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a little hobby evaporator for next season. Plenty familiar with an evaporator having run a 2x6 rig for 10+ years. After many hours of researching, I really...
Got everything in yesterday and today. Sap was running for sure. One off the earliest dates I've tapped. We'll see if it pays off. My gut thinks that when spring comes, it's going to stay.
In Stamford. As usual, I will be ready to tap on February 1 and wait to for a good stretch of weather. Good luck to everyone.
Collected just shy of 200 gallons today. Time to sweeten the pan tomorrow!
Try USA Plastics. They have a website and catalog. A variety of options that are food grade. Not cheap but very durable and list of sizes to choose from.
I have a few different sizes for some...
Got all 330 in. Finished up this morning. Not much of a run today because the cold just held on too long. Hopefully we'll see a turn around soon. Getting a little worried that we may see nighttime...
2.3% from today's sap. Collect 120 gallons.
Great set up.
We have a fairly large bucket operation. To make life easier and not have to climb up into the bed of the truck, I was hoping to build a dumping station off the rear bumper that we could pour sap...
Got my final taps in this morning in anticipation of some warmer weather this week. Time to sweetin that pan!
UMPWOOD1 - I'm more than happy to chat about schools groups. We are a public sugar house and see thousands of students a season. my office number is 203-977-6568.
I had someone recently contact me who is interested in making syrup at home next season. They will be using a turkey fryer as a heat source and were thinking about a stainless stock pot to boil down...
Finally slowing down in Stamford. One of the best seasons. I thinknthisnwill be my final weekend... Until next season.
Come on down to our maple sugar festival this weekend for sure. We've had a great start to the season and will be boiling all day both Saturday and Sunday. Lots to do. Hope to see you there.
I use a cone filter and it works great. I think for 100 taps you could go that route and be happy.
Another 280 gallons today. Had the first draw and it was real light. I love this time of year!
Collected 200 gallons by 3pm today. We'll be sweetening the pan tomorrow for sure.
Our gravity line is running great today. Perfect weather to start the season.
Finished putting in all the remaining taps today. With warmer weather this week, I'm hoping for a good run. Good luck to everyone.
Finished tapping my main area. 125 on gravity. Was too chilly to get any flow. i'll finish almost 200 buckets on monday. Looks great for next week. Lets just hope no major tree damage from the wind.
