I'm holding off in Foxboro. I tapped early last year and they dried out on me.
I don't boil every day either. I freeze a couple of block of sap and throw it in the container every morning to try and keep it fresh.
I have about 30 taps. Small time compared to some of these guys. Been doing this for 8 years. If it doesn't freeze up over night, they usually stop running. Should start again after the freeze...
Just ordered snowshoes, will be trying them out for the first time this week. Hoping it works. I was out back yesterday and still sinking over my knees.
So looking at mid March???? That is by far the latest I've ever tapped.
I got my 30 taps in on Thursday afternoon. Friday some ran and then got a good run on Sat. Looks like sugar content is pretty good for me. I got just over 3/4 of a gallon of syrup from about 34...
Hoping to get them in tomorrow!!!
Thanks. Looks like some possibilities for runs next week. I'll keep them in one more week!
Not much of a run today. it's been too warm at night in Foxboro. Think there's any chance for them to reset if forecasts hold true and it gets cold again next week?
First boil today. Small one. Most of the sap was frozen solid. Already had my first visitors wandering down the driveway to see what was going on. It's good to get going. I had some overflowing...
Got 19 taps in today, hoping to double that this year....Sap was flowing like crazy
ARRRRGG. Hoping to get some in tomorrow. good luck!!!
Seeiing it drip and then making maple candy for them definitely got the itch going, but I waited last year even with the crazy weather. I'm glad I did. There were enough back to back good days to...
Relatives in town from southern CA. Tapped a damaged tree so they could see the process. The tree ran. kids were out of their minds. they'll never see that in socal. really looking for the...
Same here in Foxboro. Yesterday Morning collected 30 Galons from 29 taps and it looks like there's @ another 20 gallons around today. Have blocks of frozen sap, hopefully keeping it fresh enough...
Same here. low volume and low sugar. Good thing last year was great. I still have some left over!
I have the same problem. The tubes melted out today, but containers are still solid ice. At least we don't have to worry about the sap spoiling.
I just spilled 5 gallons of sap down my leg!!
I'm planning to wait to tap, but the 10 day forcast looks perfect!!! Anyone thinking of going early?
I thought I was the only guy in Foxboro!!! Tap a few today and the ran right away. Looking forward to the end of the week. I'm on South St.
Just put out 5 taps. Not drippping, yet. Tomorrow's weather looks good and then the end of the week looks great. Hoping to get all the taps in on Thursday.
Thanks for all the ideas. Maybe I'll try the cable. The tree is right on the side of my yard where the kids play. i'll have to take a closer look to see how bad it is. It has separated at the...
Thought of trying something like that. The crack starts at about 20 feet up at a joint and runs over 10 feet down. It's pretty wide at the top. I thik it would take alot of cranking to get it back...
Just noticed a big crack down the middle of my best tree(I don't have that many). Bummer, but I guess I'll have firewood to split.
