UVM has some interesting reading about how many taps per line to maximize vacuum.
Place a pressure gauge at the start of the line- we are able to get 28" of vacuum- crazy
We have sections of flat bush that still allow for a modest drop in the tubing.
Zig Zag all over the place, and have each lateral deposit into a 55 gallon barrell as mini collection spots.
Often I...
Not too soon I hope.
We have lines to stretch and 600 taps to drill.....and no little helpers this setup
Anyone started setup for 2024 yet
Marshmallows gave way to Wet Cat food and a live trap finally prevailed.......
End of season clean ?
Turn the flue pan upside down and add hot water with pan cleaner.
Works for the inside/ should also work for the outside.
Ditto to that !
Hoping the snow will keep some sap flow events coming. Next week certainly looks hot.
Could be a hard stop without cool nights to hold the sap over
100 %- They got's to go
Live traps and teeter totter traps are setup trying to catch the sucker.
Ok folks-
Anyone have a solution to keep the racoons off the evaporators at night
Made 7 gallons today and almost forgot about the pan.
Amazing how a good sap flow erases the brain
YAHOOO--- Nice call Dad !! LMAO
Thanks for the advice
The woods are full of sap- so I like the idea of starting again.
Left a lump in my throat once the pans scorched up but luckily we saved the pan.
Can you blend great syrup with scorched syrup tp help reduce the flavour of the scorch
OR
Do we have to pitch it ?
Can you pls post more pictures of your RO assembly.
Looks great and portable>
How do you rinse the filters ?
Cheers
We have 640 or so tapped as of 10 days ago- just enough sap so far to flush the lines modestly.
Looks like things will start in earnest this Wednesday
I have a haunting feeling this will be like 2012 for us in Georgian Bay.
Likely no real sap flow events until next week with lots of cold temps.
-12; windchill -17 last night/ that's gonna keep...
I believe we have learned to tap while the sap is just starting to flow.
Easy to spot leaks right out of the gate; and seems to save us time in the long run checking lines.
North Parry Sound here-
Waiting until Sunday or Monday.
Still a few -10 nights ahead
Bruce Mines Fire Dept just dragged one of these Fat Trucks out of the lake...... thought they were suppose to get out on their own
Forecasted Temperature dropping heading into the month's end.
Seems like 2012 almost ??
Sure is tempting hearing all the flow reports in SW Ontario
Excellent suggestion thanks
Seems like your bubble burst is Truism.....
We run a 2x4 7" raised flue pan and a 2X4 divided flat pan. Arch is AOF and AUF - we are luck to average 22-20 gph consistently.
For my money- jump...
