If anyone has run out of bush to filter, I still have a ton of sap to boil, on Country Rd. 48 just west of Balsam Lake Provincial Park, just west of Coboconk. Any and all are welcome.

I am in recovery mode, so if you are looking for somewhere to come sugar, you'd be welcome here...1918 County Rd. 48, Kirkfield, on hwy 48 just before Balsam Lake provincial park heading east on 48...
I'm missing why 210-211 should be used as a base? My thermos are adjustable (for the boiling point of water), so I just stick them in a kettle outside near my arch and bring the water to boil and...
I agree, next time I fall like that I will fall on a less fallen on part of my body...hmmm...???...;-]
A few days ago I had to get to the top of my storage tank to reposition the supply pipe, so I used a little 3 stair step stool. I had to stand on the top stair, and I felt uncomfortable but it...
lolz, you fight the right...;-]
Today has been great in a couple of ways. First, I managed to bottle 15L already today, and I could have bottled another 8L if I wanted but I decided to combine that with a batch tomorrow instead....
Sorry to take so long to respond. I have a digital refractometer and a manual (actually 2 manual refractometers, one for sap, the other for syrup, different brix ranges). They never agree, so I use...
So I apologize for trying to participate, bye.
I got another 80 gals of sap after I shut down at 3:00pm yesterday...so not a tsunami but not a bad day in the end.
We've just got to 0C in the last 20 mins, so hopefully sap will start flowing...
I'm not sure where we are in relation to each other (my bush is right beside Balsam Lake Provincial Park), but...
10-11am sap flow rate was 12gph
11-12pm sap flow rate was 15gph
12-1pm sap flow...
So I stopped trying to count actual sap received, and instead only need to know the flow rate of the sap and the amount of sap I have on hand. To measure flow rate, I don't try gph, I just count how...
Sap has slowly started again late yesterday...I got some 80gals between 2:00pm and 6:00pm, then it started again at 10:00am this morning. For some reason my boil rate is up to 16gph?? Another 7L...
I got no new sap today, but managed to boil off 80 gallons of the sap I had in storage and bottle another 7L. Colour, because it was not mixed with last year's syrup, was closer to my norm of Amber.
Ty for the distract.
I am disappointed that nobody agreed, or denied, my belief that its barometric pressure, not temperature, that makes sap flow.
And here I am thinking that sap flows as a result of changes in barometric pressure. While temperature changes are the driving force in changing barometric pressure, it is not a matter of isolated...
Yeah, my 10 day forecast has ZERO sap running days in it...;-[
Sap didn't start flowing today until 10:30am, but its coming in very slowly.
Meanwhile, bottled 14L this morning. Its my same dark amber that I usually get...but the taste is still amazing.
Not really surprising, I don't know about where you are, but we had no real sun today. Temperature difference is a mandate for flow, but I had frozen sap in my sugar shack till 1:00pm today. There's...
I don't know about where you live, but right now I have the most amazing red sky to the west....WOW!
Folks, I don't know about where you live but right now I have the most amazing red sky to the west...WOW!
Got my boil on by 6:00am this morning. Nothing was running and in fact, my little space where I keep my pump and such was frozen?? 100W light on and vacuum running, but it still managed to freeze. So...
I looked at my newly configured clean press and found that some plates were in the wrong direction, so that was probably true of the first attempt...a basic "doh!"
I did not check that, thanks.
Well, it was at the end of the filter press, so I'm guessing it went through the 5 papers ahead of the missing paper?
